Wi-Fi turns off on the smartphone. Solving the problem of self-activation of Wi-Fi. Is it true that using a smartphone is expensive?
On a laptop. Thus, the connection to the Internet is broken, important notifications and alerts do not arrive, but, as you know, it is impossible to live without the Internet. Many blame device manufacturers for this - laptop or router, although the problem is most often easily solved with a couple of mouse clicks.
Today we will learn the basic possible reasons If a similar situation arises, we’ll find out what to do if WiFi on your laptop stops working.
WiFi turns off on a laptop - we solve the problem!
If the laptop’s connection to the Internet via WiFi is unstable and constantly breaks down, then there may be several reasons for this - either certain operating system settings, a device malfunction, or poor communication from the provider or cellular network operator.

You might also want to pay attention to this video to understand what factors affect the stability of your WiFi connection.
Disable battery saving
The main reason why WiFi constantly turns off on laptops lies in the power and energy saving settings. Since a laptop is a battery-powered mobile device, manufacturers are trying to reduce the device's power consumption in favor of greater autonomy and longer battery life.
By default, device performance when running on battery power is slightly reduced in favor of energy saving. Also, to avoid wasting electricity on unused functions, the operating system turns off some computer components. For example, if the WiFi connection is idle or not actively used, WiFi adapter can be turned off to save energy. Therefore, your favorite laptop, left unattended, carefully disables unnecessary functions and deprives you of a stable connection to the Internet.
Power settings are located in the control panel. However, please note that the manufacturer often sets additional programs, allowing you to control energy consumption, and the reason for turning off WiFi may be hidden in them.
Open the taskbar and select Power Options. The control panel and the item we need can be easily found using the search.
In the power supply window that opens, you can see which power management scheme is active in your system. at the moment, and also go to its detailed configuration.
In the window that opens, you can configure the screen timeout and sleep timeout. We are interested in the point that changes additional power options.
Find the item responsible for WiFi operation. Here it is long called an adapter wireless network. Change the value to high performance.
After changing the power plan, reboot your device and check if the problem is resolved.
Reboot the router
If the problem persists, rebooting the router may help. The most in a simple way will turn off the power supply and turn on the device.
You can also reboot the device through the administration panel by going to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 in your browser, entering your username and password, and clicking the appropriate button. The exact address and reboot method depend on the device model, and the login and password must be changed from standard admin/admin to your personal ones.
Checking the network signal and the stability of the Internet connection
We discussed how to increase the speed of a wi-fi router and the Internet in one of the previous articles. In our situation, it’s worth paying attention to how far the router is from the laptop and what obstacles the signal passes through.
If, in addition to WiFi, the Internet is unstable and wired connection It may be worth calling your provider and resolving the issue of poor internet with them.
Internet speed can be easily checked using online service speedtest.net- after all, if the values differ from those declared by the provider to a lesser extent, this is a reason to be puzzled by the quality and level of the signal.
Reinstalling the driver
Reinstalling the driver might also help. wireless adapter. To do this you need to do the following:
- go to the website of your laptop manufacturer;
- enter the model of your device;
- select the operating system;
- download the latest version and install the new driver.
Download method software differs from the manufacturer and model of the device. Try to download latest versions drivers for your operating system and device.
We have analyzed the most popular reasons leading to the fact that WiFi laptop keeps turning off. It’s good if the problem was solved by changing the power plan, and the performance of both the router and the laptop does not raise any questions. If the problem cannot be solved, it may be worth contacting a specialist.
Purchased a laptop, phone or tablet. A portable device is specifically selected to access the Internet via Wi-Fi in any accessible location. However, an unexpected difficulty arises: for some reason the connection suddenly disappears. What is the reason? Let's figure it out.
A sharp and sudden disconnection of the wireless network can happen due to several reasons. They are presented below:
- Wi-Fi coverage may disappear due to the fact that one of the functions of any modern device, whether it's a laptop, tablet or phone, is to save battery power.
- An important reason may be the presence of a weak Wi-Fi signal.
- Another reason is unexpected driver failures, including the driver responsible for the high-quality operation of the wireless network.
However, whatever the reasons why Wi-Fi turns off, they are all quite easy to fix. It is only important to be able to make the necessary settings or reinstall the driver. In this case, it is best to download the driver from the manufacturer’s official website, otherwise problems may arise. serious problems Wi-Fi is working. Let's talk about solutions to problems in more detail.
What to do if there is a weak signal or sources of strong interference?
This factor is a fairly common reason for Wi-Fi connection disconnection. Needless to say, this coverage is based on radio signals that can be shaken. It’s worth saying directly about the signal level that it is not always stable. It is influenced by several factors, the most significant of which is the voltage in electrical network. A wide variety of electrical devices are involved in creating interference, which can sometimes be so strong that it prevents the Wi-Fi signal from spreading.
The presence of metal objects between the portable device and a router. If the laptop is located at a fairly large distance from the signal propagation point, it may periodically disappear. Therefore Wi-Fi turns off. As already noted, the signal is not stable.
When a laptop, phone or tablet is placed close to the router, the vibrations are unnoticeable, but when moving away they begin to become more pronounced, and eventually the Wi-Fi connection is interrupted. Communication has a particularly negative impact mobile phones or microwave ovens. You can fix the problem by moving the laptop closer to the wireless router.
Problems caused by battery saving
As you know, one of the fundamental functions of any laptop, tablet and phone is battery life, which is achieved through high-quality battery saving. In this regard, the developers created special program, which allows you to save energy and which automatically turns off for a long time unused modules.
The same applies to the Wi-Fi adapter. It is quite possible that it will turn off spontaneously if it is not in use. However, it happens that the program has certain glitches and, as a result of an unstable connection with Wi-Fi, the adapter turns off after a certain period of time, regardless of whether the Internet connection is needed at the moment or not.
You can solve the problem described by disabling the mentioned option. To do this, you need to pay attention to the battery icon in the lower right corner of the screen. Having selected it, you should go to “Additional battery recharge parameters”, and then set the optimal recharge plan. Here it is quite possible to experiment until the optimal plan is found.
Finally, you need to select the “Edit” icon. The Energy Saving Modes window appears. Here you need to set maximum performance both when operating on battery power and when operating from the network. Thus, automatic turning off Wi-Fi adapter will become inactive. As a result, Wi-Fi will not suddenly disappear.
However, what if all the work has been done correctly, but still there is a constant shutdown? Wi-Fi connections? This means that in the most operating system installed power saving settings. You can disable this feature using the Wireless Network Control Center. shared access" All you need to do is right-click on the “Wi-Fi” icon. Then you should select the required pop-up sub-item - “Change parameters”. Here you need to find the shortcut wireless connection and click on it right click. In “Properties” you should select “Network”. Then you should go to “Settings” and select “Power Management”. Here you should uncheck the box “Allowing a device to turn off to save power”.

I started experimenting when WI-FI on modern smartphones periodically disappeared. On both. The modem needed to be rebooted. Started changing channels WI-FI settings. It didn't help. I thought it was the modem's fault. I bought another one for the experiment, the same one, used. It didn't help. I started changing the settings again. Changed the standard b/g auto to only b, only g. I changed the transfer speed from automatic to maximum (54 Mbit/s). I even changed the transmitter power. Unsuccessfully.
Using the program Inssider 1.2.8.0331 (suitable for my XP on a laptop with a WI-FI adapter), I found out that somewhere close neighbors have a very powerful WI-FI, the signal of which is only slightly weaker than that of my weak old man “ one-horned Pirelli. The 5GHz band is completely free, but my Pirelli only works in the 2.4 GHz band. :(((Moreover, the neighbor’s router is turned on in automatic channel selection mode. I saw how it suddenly changed channel from 11 to the first. So I can’t maneuver by “escaping” to a free channel.
I tried to overcome the “one-hornedness” by purchasing a new “two-horned” router TL-WR841N, connecting its “WAN” input to the output of one of Pirelli’s “LANs”. Based on the laptop, I estimated that the “two-horned” signal was a little stronger. HIS WI-FI did not disappear, even when the neighbor’s WI-FI interfered with his channel. I seemed to have solved the problem, I thought about turning off Pirelli’s WI-FI and using two routers. Then I tried to experiment some more with old Pirelli (I can’t find anything better at an affordable price for DSL). I remembered that if you just remove the Bluetooth speaker from the smartphone, when the sound starts to stutter, the radio transmission most often stops, and the smartphone pauses. This is because the smartphone not only transmits a signal via Bluetooth, but also “communicates” with the speaker. The connection is disrupted - the smartphone goes into a stupor.
I thought that using WI-FI I could try to facilitate communication between the router and smartphones and laptops. After all, it not only transmits a signal, but also encrypts it using WPA. I decided to temporarily disable encryption. And, lo and behold, the WI-FI stopped interrupting altogether!!! Then I turned on simple ancient WEP encryption - also perfect! Insider 1.2.8.0331 showed that all competing networks use WPA, WPA-2, WPA-T, etc. encryption. Now I only have WEP. The moral of this story is this. If I'm set to WEP, my router doesn't even try to read the neighbor's WPA-encrypted signal. There is interference, it produces noise, but my native signal level on smartphones and laptops is sufficient. Changing the encryption helped the router add selectivity and tune out powerful interference. Even when the powerful neighbor’s WI-FI “sits” on my channel and simply “breathes down my back.” That's how I understood it. Maybe it will be useful to someone. Specifically, weak encryption is not a problem for me. The signal of the “one-horned” Pirelli sharply weakens as we move away from our apartment. And if someone pushes himself and connects to my network, he will have DSL speed, and the desire to interfere will immediately disappear. :)))

Interesting experience, thanks!
But I still wouldn’t recommend setting the security type to WEP. The problem is not only that it is not safe. There may be problems connecting new devices to the Wi-Fi network.

I have MODERN smartphones Xiaomi Redmi 6 32/16 GB (Android 8), or, instead of one of them, Windofon (Windows mobile 8.1/10) Nokia Lumia 535.0 (2014). To be fair, the TL-WR841N router, which initially works with WPA encryption, has two WI-FI: encrypted and open, for a maximum of 32 guests. I immediately turned off the open WI-FI there, so that with my DSL I would not lose the Internet, losing its speed (512-1024 KB/s) to the speed of the oldest old switching modem (56KB/s) connected to the telephone line, popularly called the “donkey” " I remember my donkey, I even kept two living specimens. :))) In short, the TL-WR841N router has the opportunity to test the refusal of encryption as a way to overcome powerful interference.
For my Pirelli, I left only one non-standard setting: instead of “b/g mixed” - “g only”. But this is not important at all, and does not save you from interference.
In this article, I will try to answer a very popular question, which in most cases is difficult to even explain. People often write to me in the comments about some problem with Wi-Fi, I read the question several times, but I can’t understand anything. And to answer the question, I answer with several questions :) to understand what the problem is and to clarify necessary information. Let's talk today about the unstable operation of the Internet when connected via Wi-Fi.
Let's try to figure out what exactly this connection instability is, what the problem might be, and what can be done to solve problems with the wireless network.
There are times when the Internet does not work as it should. For example, you connected the Internet to your computer via a network cable. Bought and installed wireless router, and began to connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi. And they began to notice that the Internet was not working properly, it was constantly cutting out, the speed was low, etc.
I’ll probably now highlight problems that can be attributed to unstable operation of the wireless network. This way, it will be easier for us to navigate the problem itself and a possible solution.
- Frequent connection interruptions. For example, you connected a smartphone, and after a while it turns off by itself. Or a laptop that constantly disconnects and connects. I've seen cases where the connection was lost for a few seconds and was immediately restored. This is not always noticeable, but if you have Skype installed, its connection status is constantly changing. Or a yellow icon appears next to the connection icon. Here is another article on this issue: ““.
- Low internet connection speed, or speed spikes when connected via Wi-Fi. It may be that, for example, during the day the speed is normal, but in the evening it drops significantly (if connected via cable, the speed is always stable).
- Unstable Wi-Fi connection. This can include a large number of connection problems. For example, when a device connects to the network for the second or third time. Or, only in a certain place (for example, near the router, I already wrote about this problem ) .
- When you notice some problems, but not always. For example, the Internet works fine for several days, and then strange problems with Wi-Fi begin again. Or, as I already wrote, everything is fine in the morning, but in the afternoon the connection is unstable.
This list can be continued, but I think the essence is clear. I would just like to exclude from this list popular problems that have their own characteristics and about which separate articles have already been written:
- Error “ ” on computers, or when the connection is on mobile devices is, but .
- Errors on mobile devices: , and " ".
Solving the problem with unstable Wi-Fi
I have some kind of universal solution. And there are no special settings with which you can adjust the stability of operation. You need to try and find a solution. I will give some tips that should help you in this difficult matter.
Reboot your router and laptop (smartphone, tablet, etc.).
This is the first thing to do. Just turn off the power from the router and turn it back on. Also, reboot the device that you are trying to connect to the network, or that is experiencing some problems.
You need to understand what the problem is.
Everything is simple here. We need to find the culprit. This could be either your router or the device itself (computer, smartphone, etc.). How to do this? Just try connecting other devices to your network (preferably those that run on the same operating system). If the problem persists, then most likely the problem is with the access point. And the problem must be looked for in it.
If another device connects and the Internet works stably, then most likely the problem is in the device itself (with which there were difficulties). I’m already confused myself :)
Make sure the Internet is working directly.
What does direct mean? This is when it is connected without a router. Network cable straight to the computer. Perhaps there are some problems on the provider's side. And you are already torturing your router and other equipment :)
Change the channel your wireless network is on.
This is a must! If there is interference on the channel on which your Wi-Fi is operating (in the form of wireless, neighboring networks), then a variety of incomprehensible problems may arise in the operation of your Internet connection, which are even difficult to explain. Read the article on how to change the channel. This is probably the most important and effective advice.
We update the software on the router.
Afterword
If nothing works, write about your problem in the comments. Try to describe the problem in as much detail as possible. We'll figure it out together.
If you have anything to add to the article, I will be only grateful. Best wishes!

Unstable Internet operation over Wi-Fi: some tips to solve the problem updated: April 23, 2014 by: admin
operating room Android system, being the most popular in the world market portable devices, has a very big drawback - short time battery life from battery. And although Google is trying to correct the situation by regularly releasing updates and updates, the problem remains unresolved. The gluttony of Android has become the talk of the town. One of the reasons for rapid battery drain is the enabled Wi-Fi module. The point is that in latest versions Starting from OS 4.3, the developers configured it so that Wi-Fi turns on automatically, even if it is turned off.
One of the goals of this decision was the desire to improve the operation of the global location system, providing a more accurate determination of the user’s location based on signals wireless points access. Is it possible to disable this feature if you are not willing to sacrifice battery performance?
Wi-Fi Settings
- On your Android device go to Settings - ;
- Click on the “Wi-Fi” icon, after which you will see a list of available networks;
- Press the menu button and select “Additional functions”;
- Find the “Always search for networks” menu item. It is he who is responsible for this disgrace;
- Uncheck it.
After these simple manipulations, Wi-Fi will be turned off, and the device’s battery resources will not be consumed for constant searching. If you need a more precise location again, turn “Always search for networks” back on.
Solving possible problems
But it also happens that you turned off all possible functions that require Wi-Fi, but it still turns on on its own? WITH similar problem there are many users. How to deal with it?
The fact is that you may have inadvertently installed an application that constantly asks you to turn on the Wi-Fi module. Check the list of all installed ones, for this:
- Go to Settings - Applications - Third Party;
- Check the list installed programs, delete everything that seems suspicious and unnecessary to you.
In addition, increased consumption is observed for malicious applications. To identify them, you can install from Play Store some, for example, Doctor Web, CM Security, Avast, ESET Mobile Security and others. Scan your device, remove detected malware. In extreme cases, you will have to perform a factory reset.
