One plus 3 camera review. Oneplus smartphones. A mobile network is a radio system that allows many mobile devices to communicate with each other.
Advertising campaigns for OnePlus One and OnePlus 2 were based on the fact that these smartphones are "flagship killers" (the slogan Flagship Killer). In the case of the first model, this bold statement was partly true, since it was one of the first to get the Snapdragon 801 processor (overclocked version of MSM8974AC), 3 GB random access memory, and also boasted unusual packaging and CyanogenMod 11S firmware, adapted specifically for 1 + 1. And all this for $299! Attempts to position OnePlus 2 as a "killer" only caused bewilderment. It had the usual specs for the market, a controversial design, and rather crude Oxygen OS firmware. The delay with the release of the device did not contribute to such a high-profile title. In order not to finally turn into a “killer without eggs” meme, the company has revised its approach to promoting the new OnePlus 3. And rightly so. Talk less, work more. OnePlus 3 has become one of the most interesting and noteworthy flagships of 2016. If you will, he's finally become a flagship killer. Real, no quotes.

Video review and unboxing
Design and equipment
I still remember the OnePlus One packaging fondly. The OnePlus 3 just has a regular box, but everything is neater than the OnePlus 2. The accessory kit includes: USB cable Type-C, fast charging with Dash Charge support, documentation, a couple of stickers. The smartphone is placed in a hard plastic pallet and with a little modification it could well be used as a case. However, OnePlus did not complete the novelty with a case of any kind, preferring to make extra money (sells several branded cases made of plastic and on a wooden base). Painted on glass protective film.
OnePlus 3 was originally presented in graphite color (like ours), and recently debuted in soft gold coloring. In my opinion, dark colors are more suitable for the device.
The design of the OnePlus 3 is definitely a success. It does not seem original, but it does not cause rejection (like the same OnePlus 2 with an incomprehensible design of the camera area). The front of the device looks like Meizu, the back looks like HTC. But when you take 1 + 3 in your hands, neither Meizu nor HTC are remembered. The device is thin and light. Comparable in size to Huawei P9 Plus, Meizu MX6, samsung galaxy S7 edge – they all have 5.5” screens. The camera sticks out quite a lot, and it is protected from damage by a metal bezel and tempered glass (probably Gorilla Glass 4). In the unboxing, I said that the protruding camera can be forgiven if it takes great photos. After half a thousand shots taken, I can assure you that the use of such a large module is justified. OnePlus 3 turned out to be a cool camera phone, as discussed below.
The location of the key elements of the body can be seen in the photographs. I note the presence of an LED, the colors of which for a number of events you can choose yourself. Below the screen are two touch keys, marked with dots, and a touch-sensitive Home button, whose fingerprint scanner inside is protected by ceramic glass. You can be sure that the accuracy and speed of fingerprint reading will not degrade over time, since it is very difficult to scratch the pad. In the review of OnePlus 2, I criticized the work of the scanner, but there is no reason for negativity. Everything works quickly and accurately.
The Home button, alas, is not pressed, but you can bind two additional functions of the seven presented. They are activated by long pressing and double pressing. I tied the screen off to the first method, and the camera launch to the second. Very comfortably! By the way, the same can be done with the touch buttons to the right and left of Home.
I also didn’t like the audio mode switch on OnePlus 2, but on OnePlus 3 it was greatly improved, you can and should use it. The tray on the right side is capable of receiving two nano-format SIM cards, and microSD, unfortunately, has nowhere to invest (Chinese companies sometimes promote hybrid trays, sometimes they don’t seem to notice them - I don’t understand this).
The top end is completely empty, but on the bottom there is a bunch of everything: a couple of screws, a multimedia speaker, a USB Type-C jack, a microphone and an audio jack. The speaker produces above average volume, plays cleanly. The bottom end is beveled and it turns out that the speaker is directed slightly down to the surface, which increases the sound significantly - this is a great idea for the engineers (usually companies just cut holes on the bottom end and there is a reflection effect, but not so noticeable).
The Home button stands straight, there are no gaps, the mechanical keys do not play or shake. Our OnePlus 3 is built superbly! And I can’t award a similar characteristic to either HTC 10 or Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, which cost almost twice as much (the first has an uneven screen and a curved Home button, while the second has gaps with a nail between the rear glass and the aluminum frame).
The decoration of the front side was a 5.5 ”Full HD-screen with Gorilla Glass 4 and an Optic AMOLED matrix. In fact, the company took a regular AMOLED screen, optimized color reproduction, brightness, behavior in different lighting conditions, and added a beautiful Optic postscript. In the settings you can adjust the white balance and night mode, which reduces the negative effect of the blue glow. However, I advise you to go to the developer section (in case you forgot, it opens after you repeatedly click on the build number in the "About phone" section) and enable the sRGB color mode there. With it, the vigor of colors inherent in all poorly calibrated AMOLED panels disappears and the white balance is adjusted to the warm side. Looking at the 1 + 3 display with the sRGB scheme is much more pleasant than with the default settings. As for the resolution of 1080p at 5.5 ”with the structure of the PenTile matrix, then of course Quad HD looks more profitable. However, keep in mind the price at which higher definition is achieved. Since QHD has 1.7 times more pixels than 1080p, the performance in games turns out to be almost 2 times worse, and this also affects power consumption. How can one not praise the OnePlus engineers for making the right choice?
Software
One of the main advantages of the first OnePlus was the CyanogenMod 11S firmware. Over time, OnePlus and Cyanogen Inc quarreled and the Chinese manufacturer was forced to hastily develop its own platform, whose dampness manifested itself with might and main on OnePlus 2. I note that for China and the rest of the world, OnePlus creates two firmware in parallel. The global Oxygen OS is a kind of advanced modification of vanilla Android, while the Chinese Hydrogen OS is very specific and does not look like stock at all. The first versions of Oxygen OS for OnePlus 2 were so clumsy that many could not stand it and left for Hydrogen OS, overcoming all the inconveniences associated with it. I hasten to please you that the current version of Oxygen OS for OnePlus 3 is quite well optimized and the company has already released several important updates that improved multitasking, video recording, added an sRGB scheme and fixed a bunch of small but unpleasant bugs. In its current form, Oxygen OS (3.2.2 at the time of writing) is based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. In terms of flexibility and features, it is already quite different from vanilla Android, but CyanogenMod has not yet come close to the fancy features. And I like this position of "Oxygen" - somewhere in the middle between the two extremes.
The shell has a Shelf screen, where popular applications and popular contacts are located on the shelves. Reminders, weather, widgets are also displayed there. You can change the size and shape of desktop icons, select the grid of applications in the application menu, and hide the form Google search(True, nothing can be put in its place - a glitch). On the multitasking screen, applications can be blocked from cleaning, and you can also unload all background processes with the help of a “broom”. The notification shade contains different switches, whose order can be changed (but you can’t remove unnecessary ones yet). Access to the quick search and the curtain is implemented using swipes up and down (can be disabled).
There are other gestures in the settings: activating the screen by double tapping, launching the camera by drawing the letter "O", turning the flashlight on and off with a tick "V", music control. In the "Screen" section there is a night mode slider, there is a function to activate the camera by double pressing the lock key. The use of an AMOLED screen made it possible, without much damage to autonomy, to implement the "black and white screen" function, that is, the activation of the display when alerts are received (you can call it up by waving over the glass).
In the "Customization" item, a dark theme is turned on throughout the system (relevant for AMOLED, since the pixels are simply not highlighted to display black color) and when activated, it becomes possible to specify an accent color for some graphic elements. You should definitely look into the “Buttons” item if you want to disable hardware keys, preferring virtual ones to them. In the same section, “recent” and “back” are interchanged, the functions for double pressing and long pressing to all buttons at the bottom of the display are indicated.
The company did not limit the recruitment preinstalled programs just apps and Google services. She added a nice Gallery, a simple music player called Music (it doesn't have any audio settings), and a file manager with the apt name Files. A sufficient minimum that is easy to expand through Play Market.
The built-in Snapdragon 820 audio codec from Qualcomm once again pleased. Paired with the Beyerdynamic DT1770 Pro headphones, there's a one-stop volume headroom and the sound is clear and punchy, although it feels a bit tricky to drive the 250-ohm 1+3 headphones. With Denon D600, the model coped better. To my ears, OnePlus 3 sounds slightly better than Xiaomi Mi5. Sony Xperia X Performance ("Japanese" brings a weak volume margin) and noticeably better samsung Galaxy S7 edge. If we compare 1 + 3 with Meizu Pro 5 with a dedicated amplifier and DAC, then its presentation is less refined, but I cannot say that the OnePlus model is much inferior. I hope the autumn flagship Meizu will be able to set a new standard of quality.
There's a lot of talk about poor Wi-Fi reception on the OnePlus 3 (and it's not the owners who scream the loudest about it). I received a phone with Oxygen OS 3.1.3 firmware and immediately updated to 3.2.1, and after a while 3.2.2 came out. Most of the time I used 1 + 3 with firmware 3.2.2 and I can’t say anything bad about Wi-Fi - the download speed from the Play Store reaches 6 MB per second, web pages open quickly, the connection is not lost (about 10 to the home router). meters). But I read the reviews on the forums and tried to figure it out. Apparently, many were confused that the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge has the same speed. WiFi networks 2.4 GHz is about one and a half times higher (I have not seen any complaints about OnePlus 3 with 5 GHz Wi-Fi). It confused me too. However, I ran a similar test (Speedtest) on Meizu MX6 and Huawei P9 Plus and they, like OnePlus 3, showed about 50 Mbps for upload and download. And S7 edge and Huawei Nexus 6P give out up to 100 Mbps. As it turned out, the advantage of the Galaxy and Nexus 6P models is the support for 2X2 MIMO technology. In this mode, data is received and transmitted in two streams, and therefore the speed is higher than that of others. I do not exclude that in early versions Oxygen OS wifi signal lost or cut off, but I can’t confirm or deny this simply because I used OnePlus 3 with fresh software. I have no complaints about him now. But I want to complain about the inability to watch HD videos on YouTube, going at 50p or 60p. The glitch is purely software and has not yet been fixed.
Camera
For the main camera, OnePlus chose a 16-megapixel Sony IMX298 sensor with a pixel size of 1.12 microns and phase focusing, added optics with an f / 2.0 aperture to the module, and also implemented a dual stabilization system, including optical and digital. The output is an advanced photomodule that pleases with frames in the vast majority of scenarios. Frames from OnePlus 3 are characterized by good detail, correct color reproduction, moderate sharpness and high dynamic range.
The camera app is simple, although it doesn't lack functionality. There are HDR and HQ toggles on the top left. Usually it is enough to activate HDR Auto, but if there is time to comprehend the composition, then it is worth turning on the HQ mode, with which the camera instantly takes several frames and compares them with each other to produce one shot with a minimum of noise. Experienced photographers will appreciate the ability to save photos in RAW and manual mode with a change in focus, shutter speed, white balance and ISO. The exposure control appears when you touch the screen, then the brightness changes in a circular motion. Some examples in comparison with competitors:
OnePlus 3 and HTC 10
OnePlus 3 and Meizu MX6
OnePlus 3 and Sony Xperia X Performance
OnePlus 3 and Samsung Galaxy S7 edge
As you can see, in almost all comparison photos next to the Meizu MX6, HTC 10, Sony Xperia X Performance and Samsung Galaxy S7 edge, the OnePlus flagship showed itself at the level or not worse. The only scenario in which 1+3 is unequivocally inferior to SGS7edge is domestic scenes when shooting active subjects (cats and children). The frame on OnePlus 3, as a rule, takes a little longer (most likely, the tangible plus of the S7 edge in the form of aperture f / 1.7 affects) and if the child moved, the photo will be blurry. Of course, smudges are by no means excluded in the S7 edge either, but it gives out such a marriage less often (by the way, Meizu MX6, Pro 6, Xperia X Performance and HTC 10 in this scenario are also no match for the Korean flagship). However, if you catch the moment when an indoor subject freezes or poses, then the OnePlus 3 easily beats the S7 edge in terms of white balance and detail. That's how OnePlus, without unnecessary loud statements, went and created one of the best mobile cameras.
The front camera produces good selfies for the following parameters: 8 megapixels, pixel size 1.4 microns, f / 2.0 aperture, Sony IMX179 sensor. In my opinion, the OnePlus 3 shoots itself as well as the Galaxy S7 edge, Meizu MX6 and HTC 10, but inferior to the autofocus Xperia X Performance and Huawei P9 Plus, as well as Xiaomi Mi5 with ultrapixels.
The main camera records video in UHD resolution. Thanks to hybrid optical stabilization (digital + optical), the picture is quite smooth, without the "aquarium effect". Tracking focus is available, it is fast and accurate. However, he is not able to determine small objects, and in this case, touch focus comes to the rescue (the exposure after touching can be adjusted). With the first firmware, OnePlus 3 was disgustingly capturing sound, but in one of the latest updates, the audio track was pulled up nicely. Recording on the front camera takes place at Full HD, the quality is also excellent. Video recording is usually the weak point of Chinese smartphones, but OnePlus did a great job here.
Benchmarks and performance
OnePlus 3 is not the first and not the last smartphone in our review with Snapdragon 820 chipset. And the more I test phones with this processor, the more I am convinced that it behaves very differently in devices from different manufacturers. If I recorded very strong throttling and excessive heating on the HTC 10, then OnePlus 3 showed almost no throttling and the highest fps in games, which I could see on Android phones. You heard right. Xiaomi Mi5, Sony Xperia X Performance with the same chip and the same resolution have significantly lower frames per second (and also lower for Samsung Galaxy S7 edge with Exynos 8890, Meizu Pro 6 with MediaTek Helio X25 and Huawei P9 Plus with Kirin 955).
Dead Trigger 2 shows an average of 50-60 fps, in GTA SA and Assassin's Creed Identity the frames per second value is almost always around 29 fps (games are not very well optimized), in Real Racing 3 and Asphalt 8 stable 30 fps are observed. Stable 60 fps is visible in Reckless Racing 3, Sky Force Reloaded, World of Tanks. Even in Titan Quest and Hitman: Sniper, the OnePlus 3's speed allows you to play without discomfort. There are several factors that positively affected the gaming orientation of the device: excellent heat dissipation from the 2.2 GHz Snapdragon 820 chip with Adreno 530 graphics (in games, the battery temperature does not exceed 40 degrees, the phone feels only slightly warm), fast UFS 2.0 internal memory (64 GB), large amount of fast RAM (6 GB LPDDR4). By the way, about the operating system. If you have been following the gadget from the very beginning, you have probably heard that 6 GB was not optimally used with early software - applications were aggressively unloaded from memory, which, of course, was not to face a flagship with such a large amount of RAM. However, a couple of updates ago fixed this, so now the OnePlus 3 keeps a bunch of programs in memory without any problems.
The indicators from the benchmarks are presented in screenshots. Pay attention to a series of AnTuTu runs, in which the device heroically demonstrated the complete absence of throttling: 3D performance in all six tests was at 58 thousand. For comparison, for Xiaomi Mi5 this indicator quickly falls to 28 thousand, for Xperia X Performance - to 48 thousand, for HTC 10 - to 38 thousand. And the processor is the same everywhere and 1 + 3 does not have excessive heating. How did they do it? I don't know, but competitors like HTC and Xiaomi need to tighten up.
A 3000 mAh battery in a phone with a 5.5” screen was the norm last year, but today you want to have at least 3500 mAh. I'm afraid the use of such a battery in conjunction with an IPS screen would not lead to anything good, but OnePlus chose AMOLED. She did the right thing, because the smartphone gives out about 5-6 hours of active screen on a single charge (of which 2.5 hours are games). In the test for continuous video playback at maximum screen brightness, the phone lasted as much as 15 hours, and the discharge in the game Asphalt 8 per hour at a comfortable level of brightness was 14% (over 7 hours of continuous play!).
The real autonomy of OnePlus 3 once again proves that you should not judge a phone by technical specifications on the paper. However, with active use, you still have to charge the phone every 1-2 days, but with Dash Charge it takes very little time. The company claims that in half an hour the charge rises to 63%. In 30 minutes, it replenished to 62% for me, which, in general, is the same thing. In 10 minutes, the charge grows to 19%, in 15 minutes - up to 30%, and it took 1 hour and 10 minutes to charge 100%.
conclusions
OnePlus 3 is not positioned as a flagship killer, although it honestly deserved this title. It turned out that a real productive animal is hidden behind a beautiful metal wrapper - one of the best gaming smartphones. Also pleased with the camera and a simple firmware with a slight touch of geekiness (I'm sure gestures and chips with buttons are unlikely to leave anyone indifferent). Autonomy not only did not disappoint, but even surprised. Honestly, I was expecting the worst from the OnePlus 3 after a less than happy experience with the OnePlus 2.
If you are planning to spend about 30 thousand rubles on a smartphone, then OnePlus 3 should be the first on the list. For this money, you will get a well-assembled device with cool hardware and an active, albeit small, community. There are few reasons not to buy, or at least not consider purchasing 1 + 3. For example, you need a compact phone with a small screen. By the way, official sales in Russia have recently begun, the RRP is 34,990 rubles (although you can find it cheaper, for example, in OZON). The price is tempting, isn't it?
For the test sample of OnePlus 3, we express our gratitude to the online store GearBest.com. Remember that you can return part of the money spent through the Letyshops cashback service (a VIP account is given upon registration). We also offer prices for
In our opinion, the device turned out to be stylish and convenient. However, if you look at, you can suspect OnePlus of plagiarism.
The body of the OnePlus 3T is made of anodized aluminum. Its rear panel is one piece with the edges of the case and is slightly rounded towards the edges. The side edges, on the contrary, are slightly pointed, in contrast to the smooth lines of the back of the case. All this makes the grip pleasant and reliable; in a large palm, the gadget looks very organic.
The front panel of the smartphone is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4, made using 2.5D technology (curved at the edges). In its upper part, there is a front camera, a light sensor and a speaker slot. At the bottom, the most prominent element is the home button, which houses the fingerprint sensor. The button is fully touch, rather large. To the right and left of it are the "Back" and "Recent Applications" keys. They have a little oddity - they are highlighted with small dots, and only at the moment of pressing.
The volume control buttons are located on the left side of the case, just above them is the mode control slider. The bottom position is in normal mode, the middle position is in Do Not Disturb mode, and in top position switches the phone to vibrate mode. On the right side of the device there is a power button and a tray for two nanoSIM cards.
On the back you can see plastic inserts for antennas. There is also the main camera, which protrudes significantly from the body. Looks nice, but not very practical. We often put the phone face up, while it rests on the camera - because of this, scratches and chips can appear on it. Just above the camera is a hole for an additional microphone, and just below the LED flash. Under the flash is the OnePlus logo.
With dimensions of 152.7 × 74.7 × 7.77 mm and a weight of 161.3 grams, the smartphone can be called thin. , for example, almost a millimeter thicker, and a few grams heavier. Separately, we note that the case material almost does not get dirty, and the build quality is at the highest level - nothing dangles or creaks.
OnePlus 3T can be bought in several body colors: gray (Gunmetal) and golden (Soft gold). There is also a limited edition in black (Midnight black).
Screen - 4.6
The smartphone is equipped with a very high-quality screen made using Optic AMOLED technology.
With a diagonal of 5.5 inches, the resolution of the OnePlus 3T display is not the highest - 1920 × 1080 pixels. However, this ratio gives a density of 401 ppi, which is quite a lot and coincides with the parameters.
Color reproduction is very accurate. The color field coverage we measured completely covers sRGB and AdobeRGB, this is a very high result. A similar display is installed in . If the colors seem too bright to you, the display can be switched to sRGB mode, or calibrated yourself in the settings. Viewing angles are also good - even when viewed from a large angle, the image does not lose brightness and contrast, and color reproduction remains just as accurate. The contrast of the AMOLED display tends to infinity.
The brightness margin is not bad - 450 nits at maximum. Under direct sunlight, the display behaves with dignity - the image fades somewhat, but remains well readable. The minimum brightness of 4 nits makes it quite comfortable to use the device in the dark. Automatic brightness works well, the backlight does not jump. Unfortunately, there is no mode of operation with gloves, as well as newfangled pressure recognition. However, all this does not detract from the advantages of the OnePlus 3T display.
Cameras - 4.7
The hero of our review is equipped with high-quality 16 MP cameras each. As a rule, a flagship is expected to opportunities for photography and videography, and the OnePlus 3T did not disappoint.
The main camera is represented by a Sony IMX298 photomodule. It has an aperture of f/2.0 and a sensor size of 1/2.8". The size of a single pixel is 1.12 microns. Also available optical stabilization, LED flash and phase detection autofocus. To begin with, we note the high speed of operation - switching between modes occurs almost instantly, the response to the shutter button is also fast. The interface itself can be called ascetic, but everything you need is present here. Although someone may not like the lack of a large number of different special effects.
Auto mode allows you to take good pictures when daylight. Focusing is accurate, errors, if any, are rare in the operation of the focus. Photos are well detailed and clear. The colors in the pictures in some cases come out a little brighter than natural, but this is not so noticeable, so do not consider this a disadvantage. It is possible to shoot in RAW, as in professional . This allows you to fine-tune the color balance settings in Adobe Photoshop or other similar programs on the computer. When shooting at night, the quality of the photo drops somewhat, noise appears. Here for you help will come HQ mode, which significantly raises the brightness of pictures at dusk. There will be less noise, more detail. We also note the HDR mode, which works well on the machine and allows you to take pictures with large quantity colors and shades. In manual mode, ISO adjustments are available in the range from 100 to 3200, the lighting level, shutter time and focal length are also adjusted.
Video recording is possible in 4K resolution (3840×2160 pixels) at 30 frames per second, in Full HD (1920×1080) at 60 frames per second and in HD (1280×720). There is a slow motion mode, but in it the frame resolution drops to 1280 × 720, and the frame rate remains at 30. Strangely enough, usually in slow motion, the frame rate increases to 120, and in general to 960.
The front camera has an aperture of f/2.0, a pixel size of 1.0 microns and a fixed focal length. It allows you to get well-detailed pictures with natural colors. Video recording is possible with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels.

Working with text - 5.0
The smartphone comes pre-installed with Gboard, a convenient and highly customizable keyboard from Google. It has a large number of settings - keyboard height, theme, additional languages input. It supports continuous and voice input, as well as a layout with various emoticons. There is also a user dictionary function - when the keyboard remembers unfamiliar words. In the future, this dictionary can be synchronized between other devices with Gboard, for example, with .
Internet - 5.0
The role of the main browser "out of the box" is Google Chrome. Say something about the most popular mobile browser unnecessarily. Let us briefly recall its main functionality. It can compress traffic, save bookmarks, store your passwords and autofill data, and also has an "Incognito" mode - when your data is not transmitted to the Internet.
OnePlus 3T's screen size allows you to comfortably browse the web.
Communications - 5.0
Set of communications and various sensors OnePlus 3T is a match for any flagship. The lack of FM radio may be frustrating for some, but in the age of 4G, online radio stations are successfully replacing it. It is also worth noting the USB connector - it is made in the Type-C form factor, but in old version protocol 2.0.
The smartphone is equipped with the following set of communications:
- Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA
- Bluetooth 4.2
- GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou
- USB Type-C
- accelerometer
- gyroscope
- compass.
Multimedia - 4.4
The OnePlus 3T's multimedia capabilities are on par with other flagships. The earpiece delivers speech loudly and clearly. The music speaker can sound up to 80 dB, so the call melody is clearly audible even in a noisy place. The built-in gallery can play many video formats, but there are no playback settings.
Only good things can be said about the sound in the headphones. The sound characteristic is quite flat over the entire audible frequency range. There is enough power even for serious ones with a resistance of 64 ohms or more. There are branded "improvers" that allow you to customize the sound for yourself. The smartphone has no genre preferences; both instrumental compositions and electronic music will sound equally good in headphones.
Battery - 3.9
The battery life of the OnePlus 3T is not bad. The battery charge will surely be enough for a full day of work, which is typical for modern flagship devices.
During tests, watching videos at maximum brightness drained the battery in just over 12 hours. As a music player, the smartphone was able to play music for about 50 hours without interruption. We managed to talk on the phone for almost 30 hours in a row. The indicators are not bad, comparable to.
With everyday use, the smartphone will ask you to charge it in a day and a half. It is understood that during this time you make several calls, check your mail, communicate in instant messengers and social networks, listen to music. If you add games and watching videos online to this scenario, you will need to charge your smartphone by the evening. But still, given the 3400 mAh battery, it could be better.
OnePlus 3T comes with a special Charger, compatible with proprietary Dash Charge fast charging technology. This is OnePlus proprietary technology and is not compatible with other common standards. It allows you to charge your smartphone battery from 0 to 60% in half an hour, and a full charge will take about an hour.
Performance - 4.7
The smartphone has excess performance and easily copes with heavy applications and games on maximum settings charts.
OnePlus 3T is equipped with a powerful processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 821. Enhance the efficiency of the processor and 6 GB of RAM, coupled with the Adreno 530 video accelerator. The system interface literally “flies”, applications run quickly, without any slowdowns.
Synthetic tests showed the following results:
- Geekbench 4 - 4262 points. Have 800 points less, obviously good optimization in OnePlus 3T.
- AnTuTu 6 - 151629 points. The Samsung Galaxy S7 has 129,842. A noticeable difference is the larger amount of RAM in the hero of our review.
- 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited - 31036 points. A little more than Xiaomi Mi5s.
Heating under load is moderate - the metal case, which conducts heat well, affects. With intensive use, the back panel becomes warm, the temperature rises to 30-32 degrees. Very good result, it is comfortable to hold the device in hands.
Memory - 3.5
The smartphone is available in two versions:
- 64 GB internal memory
- 128 GB internal memory.
There is no possibility to install a memory card, and in our opinion, this is a clear shortcoming of the model. If you take a lot of photos or store your music collection in the phone's memory, then 64 GB may not be enough. But even buying the "older" version carries some limitations - OnePlus 3T 128 GB is available only in gray design.
Peculiarities
The smartphone runs OxygenOS, a slightly modified version of . The changes here are more cosmetic, but there are also interesting features. For example, gesture recognition when the screen is off. If you draw the letter “O” on the screen with your finger, the camera will be launched, the letter “V” will activate the flashlight. The music player control is implemented in a similar way. Vertical "swipe" with two fingers will start or pause playback, and by drawing "<» или «>”, you can switch the song being played.
The operation of the fingerprint sensor is clear and fast. Touches are recognized from any angle.
OnePlus 3T is more new version regarding the impressive OnePlus 3. Currently, this smartphone can even afford to compete with the Google Pixel.
OnePlus 3T Smartphone Reviews
OnePlus 3 is the best smartphone released by OnePlus on this moment. Will the new model be able to compete with the original, and are all its innovations so good? You will learn about it in this review. Go!
Gorgeous minimalist OnePlus 3T design
Putting the OnePlus 3 next to the OnePlus 3T makes it almost impossible to tell them apart, at least in appearance. It's a pretty logical move as there was no point in redesigning the OnePlus 3 given that the last one came out just six months ago. Plus, the original design was great on its own.
The 3T has changed the structure of the metal shell that was on the OnePlus 2 from rough to smoother, and the overall design has become more minimalistic. The One Plus logo is embossed on the back of the device, and like the iPhone and HTC, the back cover has two darker colored lines at the top and bottom, and the camera lens is slightly raised off the body.
If you take the smartphone in hand, you can see that its sides are slightly curved and completely smooth, thanks to this, the device lies perfectly in the palm of your hand. Considering the amount of time that phones spend in the palm of a person throughout the day, this is very important. After OnePlus 3 debuted with high level quality and comfort, it has been taken to the next level with phones like the ZTE Axon 7 and Huawei Nova. The new OnePlus 3T may not quite live up to the ideas behind the formation of the Axon 7, but the 3T has managed to get as close as possible to the latest generation of phones.
It is worth noting that the phone is surprisingly compact. Samsung and LG have 5.1-inch and 5.3-inch screens, respectively, like the other best phones this year. While the OnePlus 3 has a 5.5-inch screen, it's barely wider than the LG G5 and only a millimeter or so longer. In addition, the smartphone is thinner and weighs 158 grams, which is almost the same weight as the G5 and S7.
Gorgeous screen and fingerprint sensor
The screen of the OnePlus 3T is covered with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4 protective glass, which has a curved shape, it beautifully completes the modern design. There is only a fingerprint sensor, which also acts as a home button. A two-stage switch allows you to selectively mute alerts based on their importance. This saves time and the switch itself has a new and unique look. Its placement in the upper left corner is a little out of the ordinary, but only for right-handers.
The fingerprint sensor works with amazing speed, in addition, the device has NFC, so that the smartphone supports Android Pay. Even if mobile payments do not work, it is unlikely that this will be due to 3T problems, but rather to errors in the application itself.
OnePlus 3T received a 5.5-inch optical AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. What does optical AMOLED mean? OnePlus CEO Carl Pei said that the company supplies Samsung screens, are equipped with a dual polarizing layer that is tuned to deliver enhanced color gamut and contrast. It's always been a problem on the OnePlus 3 to adjust the screen using the basic controls, but that's changed on the 3T. The picture here looks amazing, which was difficult to achieve in OnePlus 3. If standard settings are not suitable, you can always use the custom setting from warm to cool tones.
Performance level with reactive
The main change in the OnePlus 3T is the replacement of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with the new and more powerful Snapdragon 821. RAM remains unchanged at 6GB, and while there are a few other changes, the change in processor is undoubtedly the main reason why the 3T costs more.
It's time to turn to comparative tests. Putting the 3T against the OnePlus 3 is probably the easiest way to find any differences. AnTuTu 3D on OnePlus 3 scored 44.131 points, and the same test on OnePlus 3T turns into 166.912 points. Both ran in the same environment, without third party apps, on the latest version of the most up-to-date public release of the OxygenOS shell.
That's a big difference, and it crushes just about every other smartphone. Such high rates are present in other test programs. Geekbench 4 scored 4.133 on the OnePlus 3 and 4.390 on the 3T, while a 3DMark gaming test showed the OnePlus 3 scored 2.561 while the 3T scored 2.700.
There are some other changes that won't be immediately noticeable, but that give noticeable benefits to the new device. For example, 3T does not heat up when under load, unlike the 3rd version, and it also has an increased battery capacity - 3.400 mAh.
OnePlus 3T camera and its software
The OnePlus 3T still has the same 16-megapixel camera as its predecessor. It has an f/2.0 aperture, optical image stabilization, HDR, and a 1.28-inch sensor. However, OnePlus has debugged the software. The pictures produced by 3T are more natural and pleasing to the eye.
When taking close-up photos, blurring the background looks very nice. When HDR was activated, shadowed areas were lit up quite well without sacrificing detail. In low light conditions, a lot of detail is revealed, although it's not quite like the iPhone 7 Plus, you won't be disappointed.
As for the front camera, the OnePlus 3T has a 16-megapixel selfie camera. The powerful sensor is not so much for selfie lovers, but for live streamers who require high-definition images. And even in low light conditions, it performs well. The front camera has a simple beauty mode and features where the sensor needs to recognize smiles and activate the shutter.
Swipe right on the sensor, in camera mode, and you'll be able to access the manual settings mode, where ISO, focus, shutter speed and brightness can be adjusted to suit you. The camera software is fast and efficient.
Software and updates
OnePlus 3T runs Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow in user interface OxygenOS, which slightly changes operating system from the one offered by Google. It's not a drastic change, it's closer to the way Motorola deals with Android than the heavy UI from Huawei or Samsung. Android 7.0 update is expected by the end of 2016, our model has been with Android update dated November 2016.
There are several modifications included with OxygenOS. Most notable is the "Shelf" feature, which allows you to open from the left home screen, an interface where you can find links to frequently used apps, an Android widget space, weather data, and a place to write notes. You can enable or disable this feature if you wish.
OnePlus installs its own app gallery, file manager applications, a music player, a voice recorder, as well as a new Community application - it gives direct access to the company's online forums. There are a lot of complaints and whining on the forums, most of which are isolated incidents, but this makes it possible to find problems on the forum if a solution was not found on the Internet.
Memory capacity and no microSD slot
Depending on which model you buy, you can get either 64 GB or 128 GB of internal memory, but unfortunately there is no slot. microSD cards- to increase memory. OnePlus decided not to follow fashion and did not add new feature Dual-SIM trays, which has the ability to use one of the memory card slots, so the 3T is strictly a dual-SIM device.
For this reason, we suggest opting for the 128GB version of the OnePlus 3T, which will last a few years given its performance before you need a replacement.
Battery life and fast charging in OnePlus 3T
While the OnePlus 3T is the same size as the OnePlus 3, it packs a larger 3,400mAh battery that lasts around a day with moderate-to-heavy usage. You can increase the time battery life even more, using a function that turns off the display of data in background, as well as the vibration function.
The fast charging system works great, OnePlus claims it will charge the battery up to 60 percent capacity in just 30 minutes. Our tests showed that this was true, and we saw 60 percent in the 31st minute. A full charge was completed within an hour and 20 minutes. We have achieved the same with OnePlus 3.
Warranty, price and availability
The much hated invitation system is now a thing of the past, you can buy the OnePlus 3T through the OnePlus online store right now. The 64GB model costs $440, which is $40 more than the OnePlus 3.
OnePlus offers a good one-year warranty, defects will be repaired or a replacement device will be provided - free of charge, including shipping and handling costs. This does not cover wear or water damage. Alternatively, OnePlus offers an extended warranty plan for a year, 18 months, or two years, but that costs extra money and is only available in the US, not China.
Should You Buy OnePlus 3T?
The OnePlus 3T is powerful enough to offer a combination of high performance and style, allowing you to keep a solid piece of money in your pocket, unlike its competitors. One or two problems software do sometimes appear - but we hope that they will be fixed in the near future. Moreover, they are not enough to cover all the benefits. this device.
OnePlus 3T is, in our opinion, a good and powerful smartphone without any major flaws. It's beautiful to look at, great to use, takes impressive shots, and is technically capable of being a powerful and productive device for many years to come. And all this for the price of $440 (28,000 rubles). Tempting, isn't it?
Advantages
- High speed performance thanks to Snapdragon 821;
- Impressive cameras;
- Beautiful metal case;
- Almost pure Android with regular updates;
- Very fast battery charging.
Despite the fact that the OnePlus brand is quite young, the smartphones produced have already gained a steady reputation. The company is one of the top three popular Chinese manufacturers, surpasses Meizu in quality, but at the same time, it is closest to A-class brands at prices.
OnePlus smartphone lineup
The current flagship model is . This is a thin and sleek device with a Full HD+ display (18:9 aspect ratio). The quality of the display can be equal to Samsung devices. Camera sensors are from Sony.
The operating system is based on Android. The battery allows you to work one and a half days at an average load and 7 hours in video playback mode. Original charging allows you to get 90% battery charge in just 1 hour.
It is also worth highlighting other models:
- OnePlus One - the first model, released in 2014, was roughly the same size as the Samsung Galaxy S5;
- OnePlus 2 - 2015 model with a 5.5-inch screen and two cameras of 13 and 5 MP;

- OnePlus 3 - 2016 model, equipped with a 5-inch screen and stands out for its fast charging function;
- OnePlus 5 - released in 2017, reminiscent of the iPhone 7 Plus in design, and for the first time received the unofficial title of "Chinese flagship" in quality.
Model number 4 was not produced, as the number 4 in Eastern culture is considered unlucky.

In June 2016, the young Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus, after the unsuccessful flagship last year, released its third top-end device. Relatively inexpensive smartphone with an excellent appearance, high-quality AMOLED screen and enviable gaming performance, it immediately found its fans. Six months later, OnePlus decided to release an updated model that will match the top models of competitors. And here the company followed the path of Apple, which exploits the design of devices and releases updated models with new hardware in the old case. Is it good? Consider this situation using the OnePlus 3T as an example.

The OnePlus 3t package bundle is similar to that of the previous model. And this is rather good news, because here the company has something to boast about. The smartphone comes in a fairly massive box, where it is placed in a special plastic form. Under it you can find a kind of envelope made of thick cardboard with instructions for English language and a paperclip to remove the SIM tray. A 4 Amp power supply and a USB Type-C cable under the envelope are located in special compartments. Traditionally for OnePlus, the DASH Charge fast charging cable is a rare example of how you can make a simple accessory of high quality and attractive appearance.
Appearance, ergonomics, fingerprint scanner
The manufacturer clearly invested a lot of resources in the creation of the OnePlus 3 case, which eventually received a lot of flattering reviews from global IT publications. Therefore, it is not surprising that new flagship actually turned out just updated. The appearance of the OnePlus 3t cannot be praised for any special design delights, it just looks good and is extremely ergonomic. If I can say so about a device with a 5.5-inch screen.
The smartphone is an all-metal aluminium case with big screen in front. There are two thin plastic dividers on the back of the lid. They are painted in a darker tone compared to the body, but purely subjectively they do not spoil at all appearance smartphone. Due to the thin body, a fairly massive camera module protrudes well above the back cover. If there are concerns that it might not survive a fall, you can get official covers from OnePlus - protective pads or a flip case. Both cost $20.
It's nice that they did not save on aluminum in the smartphone case. The power button on the right side, the volume rocker and the sound mode slider are made of the same material. The buttons have an excellent clear course, but the volume keys dangle minimally in the case. Although in my iPhone 6 the situation is exactly the same, which does not interfere with everyday use at all.
The lower part is an example of what modern flagships should be. Between the two screws on the sides of the bottom edge there is a fairly loud and clear-sounding multimedia speaker, a USB Type-C connector, a main microphone (the second for noise reduction right above the main camera on a plastic separator) and a 3.5 mm audio output.
The front of the OnePlus 3T is the same as its predecessor. Above the large display are: a standard set of sensors, a speaker, a new 16-megapixel camera for this model and a notification LED indicator.
Below the screen is a touch-sensitive Home button with a built-in fingerprint sensor and two touch buttons with minimal backlighting on the sides. The fingerprint scanner itself has not undergone any changes, it is still the same smart in terms of recognition speed - unlocking the smartphone happens just instantly. In general, this location of the fingerprint scanner is considered the most convenient due to the fact that the smartphone does not need to be lifted from the table to unlock it.
Recently, developers of local Android applications have become more active and have begun to implement support for fingerprint scanners in their programs. For example, recently such a function appeared in the application of the Ukrainian PrivatBank, where it is very convenient to enter using a scanner.
The only difference between the OnePlus 3 and 3T cases is the colors. Now the new flagship can be bought either in dark gray, even almost brown, or in trendy gold.
Having used all the current flagships, I can safely say that OnePlus 3T is one of the most convenient devices to use with one “but”. Unlike Xiaomi smartphones and meizu smartphone does not feel, so to speak, "Chinese". There are no compromises here, deliberately shiny finish of the case or some conspicuous elements of the case. This is a strict smartphone, which I was just as pleased to use as, say, an iPhone. That “but” is a very thin case with a rounded back cover, which sits perfectly in the hand, but sometimes tries to slip out. The solution is the same as in the case of a camera protruding above the body - buying an official case.
Display
Unsurprisingly, the screen on the new OnePlus 3t is no different from the previous model either. This is still the same 5.5-inch AMOLED-matrix with FullHD resolution. Yes, there is the notorious PenTile pixel pattern, but at a pixel density of 401 PPI, this does not affect image quality in any way.
Traditionally, for AMOLED matrices, highly oversaturated, almost unnatural colors are noticeable here, and there are enough fans of them in the world. But if you are not like that, and besides, you want to properly edit pictures from your smartphone, then the sRGB mode activation lever, which is located in the display settings, will come in handy. With it, the colors are as close as possible to those in IPS-matrices.
The display brightness remained at the same level - from 2 to 383 cd/m2. In the sun, readability is normal, and in the dark, traditionally for AMOLED matrices, everything is fine. If you also activate, say, a black theme in the reader application, then, according to my personal feelings, your eyes will not get tired at all. Under the rays of a fairly bright spring sun, the brightness is not enough, but turning off the sRGB profile saves a little, since in the standard mode the color contrast is much higher.
The OnePlus 3t display is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 tempered glass with a good oleophobic coating and the notorious 2.5D effect, that is, slightly rounded on the sides. According to personal feelings, such a display is simply more pleasant to use than a display with clear edges on the sides. For a week of active use with glass, except for a couple of small scratches, nothing happened.
Operating system and shell
The operating system of OnePlus smartphones is one of their biggest selling points. Initially, they worked on the already deceased CyanogenMod, and now on similar custom firmware. All these systems were united by the idea of "naked" Android, on which they worked Google smartphones branded Nexus, with enhanced functionality. OnePlus 3T is no exception. Everything is the same as in the previous model. The model for the Chinese market runs on HydrogenOS, while the US and European models run on OxygenOS. I tested a smartphone with OxygenOS 4.0.3 based on Android 7.0 Nougat.
Externally, the system is almost a complete clone of the official Google Start launcher. There is a general menu of applications with vertical scrolling, and a familiar notification curtain. The first noticeable change is the front page of desktops called Shelf, where widgets and weather information are concentrated. In the settings there is a switch from a light theme to a dark one, the ability to activate on-screen buttons instead of touch buttons, fine-tuning the notification LED, and support for gestures on the screen, which I could not get used to.
OnePlus is one of the first companies to start updating its smartphones to the latest. android versions 7. OnePlus 3T comes with this system already on board. There are few changes from OxygenOS on Android 6 Marshmallow, but they are all useful. For example, you can now reply to messages directly from the notification shade. Naturally, it became possible to use two running applications at once on one screen and quickly return to the previous application using a double tap on the "Back" button.
The main change in the OnePlus 3T compared to the model that was released six months before it is Qualcomm's latest mobile chipset. At the same time, the change is purely marketing, because the OnePlus 3 already had excellent performance. Let's see what the new OnePlus flagship is capable of on the most current chipset.
The smartphone uses the same chipset as Xiaomi Mi Note 2 or LeEco Le Pro3. A 64-bit SoC based on the Kryo architecture with four cores, two of which operate at 2.35 GHz and the other two at 1.6 GHz. Video accelerator - Adreno 530 with a frequency of 624 MHz. With such hardware, the smartphone works extremely fast, without any lags and freezes. Everything just bounces off the fingers, it feels (and first of all, I think, due to optimization and shell) everything works a little faster than on Mi Note 2.
There is no need to talk about performance in games for a long time. Modern Combat 5 Asphalt Extreme, grand theft Auto: San Andreas work perfectly at maximum settings and with stable FPS. My smartphone warmed up a little under continuous load to a temperature of 48 degrees Celsius, but no throttling was noticeable.
A multiple run of the AnTuTu benchmark confirms the absence of throttling - the difference in points was within one thousand. Both in AnTuTu and in other synthetic tests, OnePlus 3T almost always scores the highest number of points or keeps at the level among the models presented and overtakes, for example, the well-known Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
Performance comparison by Antutu version:
The OnePlus 3t I tested has 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM, there is also a model with increased internal storage up to 128 GB. Six gigabytes of RAM is enough even to keep up to 7-10 applications and a couple of resource-intensive toys in working order. It is felt that the amount of RAM is right here in excess, because applications can simply hang in memory for two days, and then unload in the same working state in which they were minimized. In all other respects, the OnePlus 3T is identical to the OnePlus 3.
Communications and multimedia
The OnePlus 3T, like the previous model, has one feature that many simply underestimate when choosing a smartphone. This is a three position slider - mute, custom and standard. During the testing of the phone, I more than once caught myself thinking how convenient it is to use it in everyday life. iPhone users with an even less functional slider will understand.
With tasks voice communication 3T does a great job. He has a high-quality conversational speaker that allows you to hear the interlocutor even while traveling on the subway, plus a good multimedia speaker. He has an average volume, and I like former user Google Nexus 6, the smartphone does not seem very loud. Although the sound it produces is of high quality and even with a hint of some kind of bass.
Navigation is good. With a bunch of GPS + A-GPS in about 10-15 seconds, the smartphone found and held about ten GPS satellites, seven GLONASS and even a couple of Beidou.
autonomy
The battery capacity of the OnePlus 3t has been increased by 400 mAh compared to its predecessor - 3400 mAh versus 3000 - which had no particular problems with autonomy with its four hours of display activity. I must say right away that it is not worth counting on the fact that everything will be better here. Still, a more productive Snapdragon 821 chipset is installed here, to which part of the increased battery capacity is intended.
However, I can’t complain about the autonomy of OnePlus 3T. On average, a smartphone showed me from 3.5 to 4.5 hours of screen activity, depending on the load of the smartphone. In my traditional mode of use with several calls per day, high brightness of the display, constant activities in three or four instant messengers, reading an average of about an hour a day and, of course, constant use of the camera, the phone worked quietly from 9 am to 8-9 pm , after which it had to be sent for charging.
Like the previous flagship, OnePlus 3T cannot boast of gigantic autonomy, like, say, Moto Z Play and iPhone 7 Plus, but for the average user, I think these results will be enough.
Moreover, the device supports DASH Charge fast charging using a power supply with an output voltage of 5 Volts and a current of up to 4 Amps. It feels even faster than Turbo Charge in Moto, where it takes me an average of one hour and 20-30 minutes to fully charge the smartphone from 0 to 100%. Here, this figure is 20 minutes less. Up to 60% capacity of the smartphone battery is charged in an average of 30-35 minutes.
cameras
The main camera in OnePlus 3t is the same as in the previous model, which has already been withdrawn from sale. It is equipped with a 16 megapixel Sony IMX298 sensor with phase detection autofocus. As before, the camera shoots well enough to compete with all modern flagships, but subjectively loses in performance of the iPhone 7/7 Plus. More precisely, he does not know how to quickly make a picture that is not bad in all respects.
The camera interface is simple and convenient. It is possible to activate the manual mode with setting shutter speed, focus, ISO and white balance. As in Moto smartphones, here you can activate quick launch camera by double-clicking the power button. Several photo modes are available: auto, auto-HDR, HDR and HQ.
Full size images can be downloaded from this link.
The smartphone can record video in 4K and FullHD at 30fps, as well as slow-mo in 720p at 120fps. The quality of the video cannot be called excellent, latest iPhone The Samsung Galaxy S7 and Google Pixel outperform the OnePlus 3t here thanks to adequate stabilization and wider dynamic range.
The front camera is now a whopping 16 megapixels thanks to the Samsung 3P8SP sensor with f/2.0 aperture. It can be seen by eye that the resolution has increased, but due to the rigidly fixed autofocus, you can sometimes miss and get a slightly blurry selfie.
Results
OnePlus 3T is a largely improved flagship model from six months ago, which was already considered one of the most profitable purchases in terms of price and quality. Yes, the smartphone has risen in price a little, but it has acquired an advanced mobile chipset, the performance of which will last for another couple of years, an increased amount of internal memory and an improved front camera. I think the last point will be corrected in subsequent OxygenOS updates, as OnePlus often does. The bottom line suggests itself - even with the increased cost, the OnePlus 3T is the very first $400-plus smartphone worth paying attention to.
What we liked:
appearance and new body color;
even excessive performance;
AMOLED display;
a fast fingerprint scanner that doesn't play Touch ID 2.0 on the iPhone 7;
support for fast charging DASH Charge;
"naked" Android with extended functionality;
improved front camera.
What did not like:
due to fixed autofocus, it is easy to miss and get a little blurry selfie.
