Many people are thinking about how to set up a d-link dir-615 router, and the reason for this is not the complexity of the setup, but the popularity of this model. The d-link DIR-615 router stands out from similar devices due to its reasonable price and good quality. If you decide to choose a router of this model, then you need a device with good Wi-Fi coverage and decent Internet quality. However, in this article we do not plan to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of this model; now our task is to explain to you how to configure the d-link dir-615 router correctly. In the previous article we provided instructions for setting up a router, and this model has a lot in common with the d-link dir-615, however, there are enough differences, so we have prepared a separate manual.
How to connect a d-link dir-615 router to a computer
Before setting up the router D-Link DIR-615, you need to connect the device to the computer. Basically, the process d-link connections dir-615 does not imply any significant distinctive features. You need to connect the router to the power supply, insert it into any of its LAN ports network cable and connect its reverse end to the PC. You must insert a cable from your Internet provider into the WAN port of the router. In general, the process of connecting the d-link dir-615 router does not involve any difficulties and any user can cope with this task. The router connection diagram looks like this:
Download updates for the d-link dir-615 router
As a rule, d-link dir 615 routers (as well as most other models) have firmware version 1.0.0 installed. or 1.0.18. This is far from the most latest version firmware and it is advisable to install the update. You can download the latest firmware version on the official D-Link website ftp.dlink.ru. Availability latest version firmware ensures more stable operation of the router. The update will only take a few minutes and is absolutely free. Before downloading the firmware, you need to determine which version and revision your router is equipped with. To do this, look at the sticker on the back of the router.
After you determine the revision version D-Link router DIR-615, you need to go to the official D-Link website at ftp.dlink.ru and follow the following path: pub - Router - Your router model - Firmware - hardware revision of the router. We find the bin file (and there is the firmware) and download it. This is what the process looks like using revision version K1 as an example:
We are flashing the D-Link DIR-615 router
Reflashing the router is carried out in the router web interface. To get to this page, enter the value 192.168.0.1 into the address bar of any browser. After clicking on the specified link, a D-Link window should appear in which you will be asked to enter your username and password. As a rule, by default the D-Link DIR-615 router has the same login and password - admin. If you can’t log in using it, get the router’s documentation and check the login information for the router interface.
After logging in, look for the item “Configure manually”, then in the “System” section click on the “Software Update” tab. After that, download the previously downloaded firmware file. After downloading the update software the router will be updated and a new interface will open.
How to debug your Internet connection
It should be noted that the connection setup D-Link router DIR-615 to the Internet is possible in two ways - manually and semi-automatically. We will use the second option, but we give preference to it not only for its convenience, but also for the opportunity to gain access to full functionality.
On home page In the router interface, look for the “Advanced setup” section, then click on the “Network” tab and select the WAN item.
A window should appear in front of you in which you need to select “Add” and create a new connection. To do this, you need to specify the type of connection in the form that opens, which may differ depending on the specific provider, usually it is PPPoE. Although it is advisable to clarify this point, this can be done on the official website of the Internet provider. Here you need to specify your login, password, MAC address, MTU. This section also specifies other parameters, if necessary. We recommend not changing anything.
If some of the required data is unknown to you, you can find it out from the agreement with the provider. You can also get the necessary information from the support service, again provided by the provider. Don't forget to save the settings after entering all the required data. In principle, if you did everything correctly, then an Internet connection should already appear.
How to debug access to wifi in the D-Link DIR-615 router
Despite the fact that the ability to access the Internet should appear after completing the above steps, setting up the D-Link DIR-615 router does not end. You also need to make the appropriate settings for the router. So let's go back to user interface router, in the Wi-Fi section select “ General settings", then "Turn on wireless...".
After that, go to the “Basic Settings” section of the Wi-Fi menu and opposite the SSID section, enter the name that you want to assign to your network. The final step is to click the “Change” button.
You also need to configure security settings. To do this, go to the “Security Settings” section, in the new window, opposite the “Network Authentication” item, specify the value WPA-PSK2. After that, in the empty field next to the “PSK encryption key” parameter, enter the desired password, which will later be used to connect to the network. Don’t forget to save the settings by clicking on the “Change” button.
That's all. The D-Link DIR-615 router is configured. If you have any questions, you may be able to find the answers in the video below.
Setting up the D-link DIR-615 has not yet been described in as much detail as this time. In this publication we will look at how to configure a fairly common router from D-link DIR-615. In the article I will refer, as an example, to the D-link DIR-615/A. But even if you have a router of a different brand, it doesn’t matter, since in many ways the settings are identical for everyone. Therefore, this manual is applicable to most D-link models. I will try to present everything in detail and in accessible language.
I won’t describe the features of the router itself for a long time; if necessary, you can read about DIR-615/A if you follow the link located a little higher. I will only note that this model copes well with its functions at home, or in not too large offices. With its help, uninterrupted Internet is provided to computers, tablets, and phones via a wireless connection.
In terms of setting up the D-link DIR-615, it is quite easy to do. Provided that your Internet provider uses the Dynamic IP connection method, then you just need to connect and turn on the router, and you will have access to the Internet. You just need to put a secret code on Wi-Fi and change the name, if necessary. The only thing that doesn’t suit me is that in almost all editions the settings of the D-link parameters, that is, the control panel, are changed (visually). Therefore, your router settings may look different from what is shown in this post. Although this is fixable, you just need to reflash it.
We proceed according to the following scheme:
- We connect the router and enter the D-link DIR-615 settings page.
- Setting up an Internet connection on the router
- We set up a wireless network and change the password combination.
Now let's look at each of the stages in more detail.
Connect D-link DIR-615 and go to settings
Turn on your router by first connecting it to a power source. If there are no lights in the foreground, the power button on the back may be turned off. In case the setting D-link DIR-615 will be done via a cable, find the power cord and connect the access point to the computer (the cable is sold as part of the router). We connect one side of the cord to LAN black connector (to the first of four), and connect the other to the network adapter of your laptop or computer. The Internet cable should be inserted into WAN connector, which is painted yellow.
If you do not have a cord or a computer with a network card, you can make settings using a wireless network. In this case, even a phone or tablet will do.
Connecting the router to a wireless network for setup
Make an Internet connection under a common name"DIR-615"
There may be protection on it. In this case, use the password indicated at the bottom of the router
Then you should open the router control panel. But first, I recommend resetting all existing settings so that if they are set, they will not fail. Thus, we will configure our router “from scratch.”
Reset settings on D-link DIR-615
Resetting the settings is not at all difficult. To do this, take a sharp object and use it to press the button. RESET, which is slightly recessed into the system case, and wait a little. Then stop pressing and wait for the router to reboot.
Log in to any Internet login program and navigate to the Internet address 192.168.0.1. A window will pop up asking for your login and secret code. If you have not changed this data, then dial admin both lines and the control panel page of your router opens.
It may be that the settings there will be on English, which can easily be changed to a more suitable and understandable one (Russian, Ukrainian).
A window may also pop up instructing you to change the initial password used to log into the D-link control panel. Then enter any cipher you came up with and repeat the same one in next line. And be sure to remember, or better yet, write it down, since you will need to enter it every time you enter the router settings.
I recommend that you immediately, before setting up, download new software to your D-link. You can read in detail how to do this in this article . But you can configure it further without firmware, if, for example, it will be difficult for you to do this.
After entering the password, we went directly to the settings, now we can configure the router.
The sequence of the Internet setup process on the D-link DIR-615 router
- First of all, it is necessary find out what connection technology your provider uses. Active IP address, fixed, PPPoE (practices Dom.ru, and other Internet providers), L2TP (uses Beeline). In my articles I talked about how to find out the connection technology. It is possible to find out this information on the provider’s main website, or even call the company.
Provided that your Internet connection is made using the widely used Dynamic IP method, the router should distribute the signal as soon as a wire from the company that provides the Internet is connected to it. Then you will just need to make the wireless network settings (we’ll look at how to do this later). If you have a static IP address, then you will need to configure it.
- Find the tab Start— Click'n'Connect. Double-check your internet cable connection and select Next.
- Find the required connection from the list that appears. If, for example, your connection is PPPoE, and your Internet provider also provides IP in addition to this, then we choose PPPoE + Static IP. Provided that the IP address is not provided, then put the selection icon opposite PPPoE + Dynamic IP. We do the same if the connection is L2TP.
- Next, enter the IP address data, if it is provided to you (otherwise this window will not appear). And press the button Next.
- Then the “Addresses of local resources of the provider” window may open. If you don’t know what this is, or you simply don’t want to enter additional addresses, then click Next. A window will pop up asking for the connection name and username, and to enter and confirm a password. This data is provided by your Internet service provider. To make more settings, go to the Details tab
Then a survey of Internet connections and the reality of connecting to Yandex selection will be carried out. But that's if you want. Still, these settings can be changed.
The settings were considered using the example of PPPoE for the D-link DIR-615 router. Your settings may vary.
If you set up an access point, but as a result there is no Internet, “no Internet access” is displayed, or there is no access to pages, then this problem is related to the settings from the provider company. Double-check, maybe you indicated the type of connection incorrectly, or some other data.
Therefore, connecting PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP and Dynamic IP is more complicated than using the Static IP connection method.
Very important! Provided that you previously accessed the Internet using high-speed data exchange, now you, in fact, do not need it. This Internet connection will be carried out by your router and only distributed over the wire and wireless network.
Change settings from the provider using the same Click’n’Connect, or by going to Net —WAN, while selecting and changing the required connection.
Provided that everything is in order and the Internet connection through the router is available, then we proceed to setting the wireless network parameters.
A clear example of setting up Wi-Fi and changing the password combination on D-link DIR-615
Now we just need to change the name of the wireless network and come up with a different secret code to secure the Wi-Fi connection.
Stand on Wi-Fi - Basic settings. Here you can change our name wireless connection. In line SSID enter the name of the network - Internet, and select Apply.
Next, open the menu WiFi — Security Settings, and in the line "PSK encryption key" Enter the code; you will then use it each time to connect to the Wi-Fi network. The secret password must contain at least 8 characters. Remember, or write it somewhere so you don’t forget later
The parameter settings you have made must be saved. System - Save. This may be the final stage of setting up the D-link DIR-615 router. If no settings
If you don't want to do this anymore, then reboot it. System - Reboot.
Now the Wi-Fi network is configured. In addition, you may need to look at a more detailed article on setting up Wi-Fi.
It is also possible to change the admin password, which must be used to enter the router settings. To do this you need to use the tab System - Administrator password.
Enter the code you created twice and select the button Apply. Be sure to save the steps you have taken.
Remember or make a note secret code, so that you don’t have to reset all the settings again, since without a password, logging into the router’s control panel will not be available.
The DIR-615 router is another representative of the D-Link DIR line of devices that supports modern local network speeds and cable Internet. Its configuration is no different from the settings of similar compatible router models.
Review of the D-Link DIR-615 router
The DIR-615 router package includes: the device itself, two Wi-Fi antennas, a software disk, a power adapter, a LAN cable, and a user manual.
The DIR-615 package includes everything you need
The WAN port is located separately. Any cable Internet tariff is supported - up to 100 Mbit/s, the same speed in the local network via cable. However, Wi-Fi (communication between devices) is three times faster.
LAN ports are located to the side
The display panel is very informative - as on the vast majority of home routers.
Power, mode and network indicators DIR-615
The number of PCs and laptops in a cable network with DIR-615 can be easily increased from 3–4 to the required number, using additional LAN-Hub devices and purely wired routers for every taste - from the simplest (other routers) to professional multiport devices.
Table: characteristics of DIR-615
Now the DIR-615 router will cost 1000 - 3000 rubles, depending on the store or trading network, region of purchase, delivery costs. Buying a DIR-615 router online on websites Chinese stores, for example, AliExpress, can cost three times cheaper (including free delivery to Russia within 60 days) than in domestic shopping centers.
Setting up the DIR-615 router
Before connecting the router to a PC or laptop, check that network adapters Wi-Fi and LAN are configured to automatically obtain IP addresses - this will free you from configuration on each of the client devices.
Checking IP settings on a PC or laptop
On Windows 10, do the following.
Now go to the DIR-615 settings.
If the previous IP settings are still useful to you (you will again connect to the Network through a router that does not have a DHCP server enabled), use third-party programs that save settings profiles, for example, NetSetMan.
Login to the router settings and change the password
After automatically obtaining IP addresses on a PC or laptop, many routers have a DHCP server enabled by default. For the convenience of users, all commands and menu items are translated into Russian.
The router will restart, you will enter its settings with a new password.
How to set up Wi-Fi on the DIR-615 router
After changing the password on the DIR-615 router, the second line of protection is checked - WPA-2 encryption in Wi-Fi networks.
The DIR-615 router will restart with the new settings of your Wi-Fi network. Use the WPA-2 key just specified in the router settings.
Setting up PPTP on DIR routers
As an example, here is an alternative web interface for routers of the DIR line, different from the “native” one released by D-Link and also suitable for the 615 model.
DIR-615 will restart and go online using PPTP. If the provider uses the PPTP protocol with the “Static IP” service, DNS addresses will need to be assigned manually.
Setting up L2TP on DIR-615
Like PPTP, L2TP is an evolution of encryption from PPTP. VPN networks. Both algorithms are used, for example, if you urgently need to “hide” from Internet censorship, for example, to bypass the torrent ban in force in your country. Many Russian providers, starting from Rostelecom, support both of these types of traffic encryption.
As an example, here is the same proprietary DIR-615 web interface.
- Give the command “Settings - Internet - Manual Internet connection setup”.
Click the button to go to manual L2TP setup
- Select the connection type (L2TP connection). As an example, communication without the “Static IP” service.
To continue, go to the following DIR-615 parameters
- Enter the username and password from the contract, server name. As an example, connect to GPON (fiber optic Internet) from Beeline.
Also enter all L2TP parameters required by the provider
- Enable auto-connect when the connection is lost and enter an MTU value less than 1450. Click the “Save settings” button. If you connect to the “Static IP” service, you will receive from Beeline (or another provider) the main gateway IP and DNS address.
The router will restart with the new L2TP connection settings and go online automatically.
Setting up PPPoE on routers
Communication via PPPoE, being high-speed, requires a username and password - unless you have activated the “Network access without settings” service. The latter is relevant for cellular providers that use client identification using an IMSI SIM card - they do not require, like cable providers, a login and password from the contract.
As an example, here is another alternative web interface from D-Link, which differs from the classic gray-orange one.
In general, the company B-Link, producing routers different modifications, belonging to the same model, uses different designs and noticeably different functionality on them, although the essence of all operations does not change.
Check that all PPPoE values are optimal
Pay special attention to your login and password
The new settings will appear next to (or instead of) IPoE
DIR-615 will automatically go online after restart.
How to configure static IPs on DIR-615
Static IP settings may not require entering the login and password from the contract.
- Give the command “Network” - “WAN” - Add button to create a new connection profile.
Adding a new Static IP connection profile
- Select port 5 and enter the connection profile, assign an MTU less than 1450, check that the MAC address is correct.
Check the same initial parameters for static IPs
- Select a static IP connection and enter the gateway IP and DNS received from your provider, click the “Save” button.
IP and DNS addresses are issued by the provider
- Give the command “System - Save settings”.
Click on the menu item to save the setting
DIR-615 will start with new settings and reconnect to the Internet.
Port forwarding on DIR-615 routers
Port forwarding between routers is necessary, for example, to optimize the speed of torrent distributions, setting up a local game server, etc. The latter is also important in a local city network - at tariffs with high-speed Internet up to 100 Mbit/s, but with intra-city (or intra-campus, for example, between several nearby university buildings or dormitories) speeds of up to one or more gigabits per second.
As an example, the blue (Russified) D-Link web interface.
- Give the command: “Firewall” - “ Virtual servers" - "Add" button.
Unlike the regular connection profile, the server connection is configured differently
- Select a custom profile template, enter a connection name, select a protocol external connection to the Network (for example, you are using a PPPoE connection). Select a protocol, for example TCP/IP.
Enter the required values for port forwarding
- Specify the range of external and internal ports. If there are communication errors on one of them, the router will automatically try port numbers in these value intervals until a working one is found.
- Assign an internal IP address to a server or router on a local or intracity network that acts as a server to which you want to open these ports. Click the “Save” button (or “Change” if you are changing an existing connection profile). You will have a new/changed connection profile with port forwarding.
Port forwarding and DIR-651 is completed
- Click the “Save” button again.
You can restart the router and check the functionality of the forwarded connection.
Setting up IP television on the DIR-615 router
The settings for the IP television service are the same for many routers in the DIR line. The service must be activated using the provider's tariff.
The port allocated for IPTV cannot be used for regular Internet. Assign one of the free ports of the DIR router for IPTV, and not another port that includes a LAN hub with several cable connections to different PCs - otherwise these computers working in conjunction on this port will be programmatically cut off from the Network.
Turn on your set-top box and connect it to the selected LAN port. The monitor should display a list of IPTV channels.
Setting up LAN and DHCP on the router
The DHCP server distributes local IPs to all gadgets and PCs that are not configured to specific values on your local network. As an example, here is the classic web interface.
The router will restart with the new DHCP settings, your PCs and gadgets will reconnect, and then Internet access will be enabled on your network.
Setting up DIR-615 as a repeater
Repeater mode allows you to expand the coverage area of your Wi-Fi network. Like any real 3G/4G repeater, a virtual Wi-Fi repeater allows you not only to solve the problem of “last house/block/mile” coverage, but also to create a full-fledged wireless local network any topology (chain of routers, star, tree, cloud or ring of devices) with one or more Internet access channels. It turns out a full-fledged network in the image and likeness cellular network- with a much smaller radius of “cells” (routers), without cable or fiber optic lines to each of these “ base stations", without phone calls and SMS/MMS, but not inferior in Internet speed to 3G-based technologies (UMTS).
Virtual hotspot and repeater modes are supported by almost all modern Android gadgets that have Wi-Fi technology Direct (“Internet Distributor”) and a third party application derived from Google Play or from third party developers. No problem matching Wi-Fi router with a tablet or smartphone (and vice versa), operating in repeater mode.
The Wi-Fi repeater mode is of practical interest to the most sophisticated users. As an example, here is the classic D-Link interface.
- Give the command “Settings - Wireless network” and select bridge mode with an access point (this is a virtual repeater). In others D-Link firmware DIR can be “Client and Access Point” mode.
The DIR-615 router is configured a little differently than routers of other brands
- Enter the Wi-Fi network name. Select the channel manually - on which the source router is broadcasting. When automatically selecting a channel, turn on the Auto Channel Scan feature.
- If you are interested in hidden Wi-Fi networks (these routers do not broadcast their SSID), you know the MAC addresses and WPA-2 settings, check the “Enable hidden wireless networks” option.
- Select Wi-Fi security - "Enable Enhanced Security" wireless networks"if the router you are looking for uses this level of security. You can also use MAC address locking to source routers if you disable this enhanced Wi-Fi relay security.
Manually assigning MAC addresses for static Bridge-AP configuration
- Select the encryption algorithm used by the source router.
The last step remains - and the DIR-615 repeater is ready for use
- Enable personal identification using the WPA-2 key and enter the password for the relayed Wi-Fi network twice, click the “Apply settings” button.
DIR-615 will restart in repeater mode, disconnecting from its own cable Internet. After reconnecting gadgets and PCs to the repeater router, Internet traffic will be automatically transferred from the original router (if it is available - cable PON, 4G access or taken from the next router or gadget in the created chain of repeaters, working as a virtual hotspot). You can go online.

Reset, preload and save settings
To simplify the settings, D-Link has combined work with the settings of routers of the DIR/DAP line into one submenu. Give the command “More - Save and Restore”.
To save the DIR-615 settings, use the “Save” button, to preload those already saved in separate file settings - file path form with the "Browse" button and the "Update settings" button; to reset unsuccessful settings - the "Restore" button. After each update of the settings, the router restarts.
DIR-615 firmware update
As an example, here is another variant of the DIR-615 interface. Download the updated firmware file from the website of the router manufacturer DIR.
The router will connect to the Network, provided that the default settings are acceptable with your provider. This happens when the provider itself simultaneously supports several protocols (without connecting additional services) - dynamic IP, PPPoE and PPTP/L2TP encryption, leaving the user with a choice.
Restarting DIR-615
Restarting the DIR-615 router is carried out either by pressing (and holding for half a minute) the well-known reset button located on the back, near the LAN sockets, or through the web interface.
It is often faster to restart the router through its settings, if the actions have been worked out, under a successful set of circumstances, than to hold this very button with a sharp edge.
Give the command: “System” - “Restart” (or “Save and restart” if you are changing the settings at the same time).
Initializing DIR-615 restart
The router will restart and go online again.
