Installation
Download the driver. Log in to the system with administrator rights. Connect the printer to the computer. Launch the downloaded file. In the User Account Control message, you allow installation. A window will appear below, select “Install”.
I don’t change anything in the installation parameters and click “Next”.
Scanning allows you to convert images and text into digital format. Images can then be emailed or faxed, posted on a website, or used to create documents that can be printed using Samsung SmarThru software or the WIA driver. You can also use a network scanning program to scan.
Basic scanning operations
There are four scanning methods for the SCX-4x20 Series scanner.
From your device's control panel to the app. To start scanning, press the Scan button on the control panel. Set the device to software that supports the TWAIN interface, such as Adobe PhotoDeluxe or Adobe Photoshop, by selecting it from the list of available applications using the Scan button. Before you assign the software, you must set up the scan list using the Printer Setup Utility.
Using the Samsung SmarThru program. Launch Samsung SmarThru and open the Scan window to begin scanning.
Using the WIA driver. The device supports the Windows Image Input (WIA) driver for scanning images.
Using a USB flash drive. You can scan and save documents to a flash drive by inserting it into the USB port on the front of the product and pressing the Scan button.
Using a network scanning program: The machine uses this program to scan images.
To scan, you must install the MFP driver.
Scanning is performed through the LPT or USB port assigned to the printer port.
The highest resolution achievable depends on various factors, including computer speed, available disk space, memory, size of the scanned image, and scan bit depth. Therefore, when scanning certain items using a particular computer, some resolution settings (especially the highest resolutions) may not be available.
Scan to an Application Using the Control Panel
1 The device and computer must be properly connected to each other and turned on.
3 Click the Scan button. The first available menu item, Application, appears on the bottom line of the display.
4 Press the Enter button and then press the Scroll buttons to select the application to which you want to send the scanned image.
5 Press Enter. The selected application window will open. Configure scan settings and start scanning.
Scanning with Samsung SmarThru
SamsungSmarThru software enhances the capabilities of this multifunctional device. SmarThru makes scanning easy.
To start scanning with SmarThru, follow these steps:
1 Make sure your device and computer are properly connected and turned on.
2 Load documents face up in the ADF. OR
Place one document face down on the document glass.
3 If Samsung SmarThru is installed, find the SmarThru 4 icon on your desktop. Double-click the SmarThru 4 icon.
Double-click this icon.
The SmarThru 4 program window will open.
Scanning
Allows you to scan images and save them in application memory or a folder, send them by email, or publish them on a website.

Click the Scan button. The Scan menu bar will appear in the SmarThru 4 window.

The Scan menu provides the following options.
Scanning an image and transferring it into an image editor such as Paint or Adobe PhotoShop.
Scan an image and send it by email. Allows you to scan an image, evaluate the result in the preview window, and send the resulting data by email.
To send an image via email, you must first install an email client application, such as Outlook Express, and set up an email account.
Scan an image and save the results in a folder. Allows you to scan an image, preview it, and save the image in the desired folder.
Recognition
Image scanning and text recognition. Allows you to scan an image, evaluate the result in the preview window, and send the resulting data to an optical character recognition program.
Resolution: 200 or 300 dpi
Image type: grayscale or black and white
Website
Scanning an image, evaluating the result in a preview window, and publishing the resulting data on a website in the form of a file of a given format.
Settings
Configure settings for basic Scan menu functions. Allows you to configure settings for the Application, Email, Recognition, and Website functions.
5 Click the icon for the desired function.
6 The SmarThru 4 program will open the selected function window. Configure scan settings.
7 To start scanning, click the Scan button.
If you want to cancel the scan job, click Cancel.
Using onscreen help
More information about the SmarThru program can be obtained by clicking the f button in the upper right corner of the window. The SmarThru Help window opens, allowing you to view on-screen help supported by SmarThru.
Scanning using the Windows Image Driver (WIA)
The device supports the Windows Image Input (WIA) driver for scanning images. WIA is a standard component of Microsoft® Windows® XP designed to work with digital cameras and scanners. Unlike the TWAIN driver, the WIA driver allows you to scan and manipulate an image without using additional applications.
The WIA driver only works under Windows XP and only through the USB port.
Place one document face down on the document glass.
2 From the Start menu, select Settings, Control Panel, and then Scanners and Cameras.
3 Double-click the device icon. The Scanners and Cameras Wizard will launch.
4 Adjust your scan settings and click Preview to see how your changes are reflected in the image.
6 Enter a name for the file, select its format, and select the location where you want to save it.
7 Follow the onscreen instructions to edit the image after it has been copied to your computer.
To cancel a scan job, press the Stop/Clear button on the control panel.
Scan to USB flash drive
You can scan and save documents to a USB flash drive using the Scan button on the control panel.
About network scanning
To use this feature, you must purchase and configure network software.
Network scanning allows you to scan documents in JPEG, TIFF, or PDF format from your product and save the files to a computer connected to your network.
To use this feature, you must install network scanning software on your computer.
Setting Network Scan Settings
This menu allows you to enable or disable the scanning function on the device from a computer connected to the network.
1 Press the Menu button on the control panel until Maintenance appears on the top line of the display.
2 Press the Scroll buttons to select Network Scan on the bottom line of the display. and press the Enter button.
3 Press the Scroll buttons to select Enable or Disable.
Select Enable to enable the network scanning feature. This value is set by default.
Select "Disable" to disable the network scanning feature.
4 Press Enter to complete the setup.
Scanning with a Network Scanner
The network scanning feature allows you to scan a document on your device and save the image file to your computer via a network connection.
If you are using SmarThru, you must start the scan operation from your computer. Data from the scanner can only be sent to a computer directly connected to the device.
Document scanning results can be saved in JPEG, TIFF or PDF file format. To protect your scanned files, use the numeric keypad on the front of the machine to enter your username and identification code (PIN).
1 Load documents face up in the ADF.
Place the document face down on the document glass.
2 Click Scan and select Network Scan. The display shows “Select ID:”.
3 Use the numeric keypad to enter Y and your password, then press Enter.
There are several ways to enter a user ID:
Enter the ID completely using the keyboard;
Or, in the smart search mode Smart search, enter several characters in the top line of the display. In this case, all user IDs starting with these characters will be displayed in the bottom line. If no records are found that begin with the specified characters, the message "No matches" appears in the bottom line. Press Enter and use the scroll buttons to scroll through the entries on the bottom line that begin with the character you entered on the top line. While browsing, you can click the Top Level button to enter a user ID using the keyboard.
4 Enter your PIN to prevent others from sending scan results to your computer. Press Enter. To skip this procedure, you can choose to enter a default password.
5 Press the Scroll buttons until Scan Setup appears on the bottom line, and then press Enter.
6 Select a file type and resolution, then press Enter.
Black and white. For this option, you must select either PDF or TIFF file format.
Color JPEG200. Selecting this option automatically sets the resolution to 200 dpi and the file format to JPEG.
Permission. Select a resolution of 100 dpi, 200 dpi or 300 dpi.
When editing, an image scanned at 100 dpi may differ from the original. This depends on the program you are using.
7 Press the Scroll buttons until “Start Scan” appears in the display, then press Enter.
If you press Enter when the display shows Quit, the device returns to standby mode.
8 The document will be scanned and transferred to the computer,
on which the network scanning program is running.
If the file format is TIFF or PDF, the display will ask you to scan another document. If you want to scan multiple documents, select Yes using the scroll button and press Enter. The next document will be scanned and saved. Repeat these steps until all documents have been scanned, then select No.
Specifying the Network Scanner Timeout
If the network scanner installed on your computer does not send update requests or scan jobs during the sleep period that is configured for the network scanner, the machine returns to standby mode.
To set a timeout for the network scanner:
1 Press the Menu button until “Setup” appears on the top line of the display.
2 Press the scroll buttons until “Time” appears on the bottom line. expected scan," then press Enter.
3 Enter the desired timeout value and press Enter.
The default value is 30 minutes. Valid values are from 1 to 1,440 minutes.
4 The change will be broadcast across the network and will take effect for all clients connected to the network.
Using the Network Scanning Driver
Adding a Scanner
You can assign the scanner as a network device in the Samsung Network Scan Manager window.
1 Select Start -> Programs -> Samsung Network Printer Utilities -> Network Scanner -> Network Scanner.
2 In the Samsung Network Scan Manager window, click the Add Device... button or double-click the Add Device... icon.
A list of network scanners is displayed on the screen. Select your device from the list and enter the PIN (Personal Identification Number) you want to use. Click on the Next button.
The scanner name will be the model name of the selected scanner; users can change it.
The username can be up to eight characters long. The first character must be a letter.
The PIN must be four digits long.
6 The device has been added to the network. Click on the Finish button.
The scanner name appears in the Samsung Network Scan Manager window. You can now scan documents over the network.
Removing a scanner
To remove a registered scanner, click the Remove Device button and follow the onscreen instructions.
To access online help about the network scanning software, click the Help button.

You can change the storage directory on the Advanced tab of the Samsung Network Scan Manager Properties window.
After you upgrade your computer to Windows 10, if your Samsung Scanner Drivers are not working, you can fix the problem by updating the drivers. It is possible that your Scanner driver is not compatible with the newer version of Windows.

How to Install Drivers
After you have found the right driver, follow these simple instructions to install it.
- Power off your device.
- Disconnect the device from your computer.
- Reconnect the device and power it on.
- Double click the driver download to extract it.
- If a language option is given, select your language.
- Follow the directions on the installation program screen.
- Reboot your computer.
