Latest downloads from the Internet. Where to find downloaded files from the Internet on your computer
Many inexperienced computer users cannot find a file downloaded from the Internet. It seems that the file was downloaded successfully, but where exactly is unclear. You can try to find it by opening all the folders in a row, but this way you can spend a year of your life without finding anything. So, what to do? Where are files saved on the computer? Where to look for them then?
Where are files saved in the browser?
But, let's figure it out gradually. Let's look at the procedure for searching for files using the most popular browsers.
If you are using Internet Explorer, then even before downloading the file, you can save the document to a location convenient for you by clicking “Save As”. After which, a new window should open in which you need to select the required folder and click “Save”. If you just clicked save and have no idea where the file was saved, then go to your browser settings, and then to “View downloads.” As a result, a list of downloaded files will open, from which you need to select the one you need.
The process of saving a file to Opera browser similar to the previous one. To search for a previously downloaded file, you need to find “All downloads” in the left functional panel and click on it, after which a list of all downloaded files will open, and all you have to do is find the one you need.
WITH Firefox browser things are somewhat more problematic. The problem is that when saving a file, it does not ask you to specify it for saving, and sometimes it is difficult to find it. To find the required download, follow the following menu chain: "Tools">"Downloads", and then find the required file in the window that opens.
If you are a browser aficionado Google Chrome, then you can find the just downloaded file in the panel below, or go to “settings” and select “downloads” and look for it in the list.
It is also worth knowing where downloaded files are saved via the Torrent program. The file is saved in my documents or in the download folder, but the file storage location can be changed by going to the program settings.
If you have not changed the settings in the browser or torrent, then the files are saved by default in the folder at D:\Users\Username\Downloads.
Where are temporary files stored?
Many people are also interested in the question: where are temporary files saved? Location temporary files depends on what kind of files you are looking for.
Temporary program files are saved to hard drive, where it is installed operating system. That is, you need to open, for example, drive C, then go to the "Documents" folder and Settings", then to the "Username" folder, then to "Local Settings", and finally to the "Temp" folder (For Windows XP) or first drive C, then "Users", then the "Username" folder, then "Local Settings", and "Temp" (for Windows Vista and 7)
If you are interested in the location of the browser’s temporary files, then you should search for them in the chain drive C:\users\Username\Local Settings\Application Data\Browser name.
If all attempts to find the file were unsuccessful, but you remember at least part of its name, then use the standard Windows search.
We tell you where the files and data downloaded to your smartphone from the Internet are located.
Every owner of a smartphone based on the operating Android systems at least once I encountered a problem when I could not find a downloaded file in the depths of the system. Many simply do not know where they end up and are scratching their heads. We decided to sort this out once and for all.
In fact, everything is very simple - if you download a file from the network, it can be found in the “Download” folder. Depending on the operating system version and user interface its location may vary.
To find the folder, you need to use the preinstalled one or download any other file manager, for example, “ES Explorer” or “File Manager” from the developer Flashlight + Clock. IN Google Play there are a lot of such applications. Then just use the search or manually check other directories. Our goal is the Download folder, where all downloaded data is stored.
Using “ES Explorer” as an example, you can either use the search or go to Menu - Local Storage - Home Folder. You can find the required directory here.
Using the example " File manager“Everything is much simpler - on the main screen of the program there is a “Downloads” section, where all saved data is stored.
If your smartphone has a memory card installed, downloaded data can be automatically saved to it. Finding them is also extremely simple - you need to go to the Download directory in the memory card.
How to select a folder to download files?
In some cases, the user wants to independently indicate the path where the file downloaded from the Internet should go. This can be done, but with a high degree of probability you will have to use new browser. Google Chrome, which comes pre-installed on all Android devices, does not provide this option.
UC Browser is suitable for these manipulations. It is worth noting that initially it will download files to the UCDownloads folder, but you can manually select the download directory in the browser settings: Settings - Downloads - Download Path. Here you need to select a folder and save the settings.
Have you ever had a situation when you downloaded a program and then couldn’t find it on your computer? If yes, then I think it’s time for you to deal with this issue - after studying this lesson, you will forget about this problem once and for all, because... you will know where the files are downloaded.
Some novice users are sure that after downloading the file disappears somewhere. Others simply claim that they are unable to download. In fact, the reason is not a disappearance or inability, but a lack of understanding that before downloading you need to understand exactly where this file will be downloaded.
Remember - before you start downloading (uploading) a file, you need to know the specific location on your hard drive where the downloaded file will be placed. That’s why, let’s immediately figure out where the files we download go.
If there were no failures during the file download, our antivirus did not give any signals, and we are sure that the download was completed, then most likely the file was downloaded normally, and our task is to find it.
Most often, novice users download from the Internet using a browser (you probably have Opera, Firefox, IE or Chrome). More experienced users use special programs for this. But not all users know that any browser (or program) is initially configured to download files to a specific location.
Check these folders and most likely you will find your “lost” files there.
But it should be noted that these are very inconvenient places for storing information, since they are located in the same section as the operating system (Windows). If suddenly some kind of failure occurs in the system and it needs to be reinstalled, then all the files in these folders will be deleted.
So I suggest doing the following: create separate folder for all downloads (in a more secure location on your hard drive) and set your browser (or program) to download all files to this folder.
If you agree, then let's get started...
You can create a folder anywhere, but it is important that it is not system partition(usually this is drive C). For example, you can create a folder in partition D, calling it “Internet Downloads”:
Now let's configure our browser so that all downloads end up in this folder. I'll show you how to do this using all major browsers as an example.
Opera
Launch Opera and go to browser settings. This can be done from the menu ( Tools - General settings ) or simply by pressing a key combination Ctrl +F12.
In the window that appears, go to the tab Advanced(1), then select item Downloads(2), then using the button Review…(3) find and select our folder (4):
After this, press the button Ok (5).
Setting up downloads in the browserFirefox
Launch Firefox, click the button at the top of the window Firefox and select the item Settings(or the same through the menu Tools - Settings):
In the window that opens, on the tab Basic(1) via button Review… Ok (4):
Setting up downloads in the browserInternet Explorer (version 9)
Launch IE and press the key combination Ctrl +J. In the window that appears, click the item Options bottom of the window:
And in the next window using the button Review…(1) find and select our folder, then press the button Ok (2):
Setting up downloads in the browserChrome
Launch Chrome and click the key icon in the upper right corner, and select the item in the drop-down menu Options:
In settings Chrome browser buttons Ok no, because All settings are saved without confirmation, so there is no need to click anything else.
As you can see, there is nothing complicated!
Setting up downloads in the program Download Master
The same settings can be made in any download program (download manager). For example, in the Download Master program this is done through the menu item Tools - Settings:
In the window that opens, select the item in the left list Downloads(1) and using the button Change(2) find and select our folder (3), then press the button Ok (4):
That's it! Now you won't lose a single downloaded file.
Some novice users, when downloading files via the Internet, are faced with the fact that they then cannot find the downloaded file on their computer. They click on the link to download the proposed file, see that the download process has begun, but after the download is complete, they do not know where this file was saved. Or they cannot find the downloaded file after some time, when this file is needed again.
If you encounter such a difficulty, then this article will help you figure it out. how to download a file, and also how to find a downloaded file, if you downloaded it through one of the following browsers: IE, Mozilla, Opera or Chrome.
In addition, in some cases the system may issue a security warning regarding the downloaded file. What to do in such a situation? We will also discuss this (at the very end of the article).
So let's begin...
Let's consider the above questions using the example of a file - a book 5 Most Important Free Programs which comes as a gift for subscribers.
How to find a downloaded file in IE (Internet Explorer)
If you download a file through the IE browser, then after clicking on the link to download the file, this browser prompts you to save the file immediately, or first select a location on your computer ( Save as), where we want to save this file:
With a proposal Save as everything is clear - we ourselves indicated where to save, so we must know where to save. But if you clicked on the offer Save, then here you need an explanation of how to find the saved file later.
Of course, immediately after downloading the file, you can open the folder with the saved file:
But, if the downloaded file is needed again in the future, and we have forgotten in which folder on our computer it was saved, then we can easily find it in the browser by going to Settings and onwards View downloads:
As a result, we are given a window for viewing downloads, in which we can, when we hover over the link Downloads, see where the file is saved and when you click on Downloads, we can go to this folder:
IE sorted out. Let's move on to the next browser.
Where to find the downloaded file in Opera
If we download files through Opera, then after clicking on the file download link, a window appears in which we click Save:
And in the future, if we want to find all downloaded files through Opera, then in the side panel (on the left) we go to the tab All downloads and we see both a list of the downloaded files themselves and the path to the location on the computer where they are saved:
Let's move on to the next browser.
How to find a downloaded file in Mozilla (Mozilla FireFox)
For some users, the Mozilla browser may be configured in such a way that after clicking the button Save file It’s completely unclear whether the file was downloaded or not. And only after loading, the following message may “pop up” for a short time at the bottom right of the browser:
However, if you click on the link All files have been uploaded, then you can go to the downloaded file. But it often happens that this window disappears quickly and if the user has never downloaded files in Mozilla before, then he may not understand now, where to find the downloaded file?
To find the downloaded file in this case, go to the menu Tools, further in . An additional window appears with a list of downloaded files. If we double-click on the selected file with the left mouse button, we will thus open this file:
And if you click on the file right click mouse, it will appear context menu, in which you can go, if necessary, to the folder with the file and find out where Mozila saves the downloaded files, i.e. to which folder on the computer.
Let's move on to the latest browser.
Where to find the downloaded file in Chrome (Google Chrome)
In Chrome, after downloading a file, the name of the file appears at the bottom of the browser on the left, where you can either open it or see where it was downloaded:
But, if you close this panel with information about the downloaded file and if in the future there is a need to find the downloaded file, then for this you can go to Settings browser and go to Downloads:
As a result, a list of all downloaded files through this browser will be presented and you will be given the opportunity to go to the folder where the downloaded files are stored on the computer:
As mentioned at the very beginning, in some cases, users may encounter a situation where the system issues a security warning when opening a file. Let's briefly consider this issue too.
Additional convenience
If you use several browsers, as well as different download managers, you can configure shared folder to save files downloaded from the Internet.
This way, all downloaded files can be located in one folder. There will be no need to search for files using the above methods, and you can even configure quick access to this folder (in two clicks).
But this is a separate, broader topic regarding putting things in order on the computer, which I discuss in one of the lessons of my other training:.
Safety when downloading some files
So, the system may issue a warning about the safety of opening files with the extension .exe:
Since there are pests that distribute programs containing viruses, etc., the system warns us to download such files only from sites we trust.
About Internet security is a separate topic for conversation, but if you want, you can read about it by clicking on the link provided in the window: How to determine which program can be run?
Naturally, I personally have no reason to spread viruses. So, if you trust me and my site, you can agree and run the file without any problems. But, to be on the safe side, you can always additionally check any files or any website, for example, using the Dr.Web online scanner.
If you need to check the site, then choose: URoLog Dr.Web.
If you need to check the file, then choose: Dr.Web file pathologist.
Those. download the file, but without launching it yet, upload it for checking into the Dr.Web scanner via the button Review and click on Check. You wait a little and get the result of the check, - secure file or not:
Your report on this lesson
Using the comment form below, send your report, indicating: have you learned (or already know how) to easily find downloaded files on your computer?
If something doesn’t work out, write in the comments.
Recently I received a question: “What is the question? I have already tried to download both books and films. Sometimes it works, more often it doesn’t. It seems like I’m doing everything correctly, I download it, after 5-10 minutes a window pops up saying it’s ready and I start looking for the downloaded material. Sometimes I download for 2-3 hours and no results.
I can't see whether the material is swinging or not.
Where can I see it? And where can I find the downloaded material? I seem to be digging through everything and not finding anything anywhere.
Neither in documents, nor on the desktop. And one more thing. Almost always, before downloading something, they ask you to indicate your username and password, and then enter crooked letters and numbers. What password should I specify? from my email?
But this is prohibited in the safety rules. And it still produces “wrong” messages, even though the computer itself produces them. Both password and login. You write to unpack the file. Where can I get it and what does it mean to unpack it?”
Your problem is that different browsers save downloaded files in different places. Typically, the location of the files you download can be customized. Let's look at where the most popular browsers save files these days. Let's take as an example Internet browsers Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Opera.
Internet Explorer
Next, a window will appear asking you to either save the file in your default Downloads folder or select a folder on your computer. Select the location you need (in my case it is drive “D”, folder “docs”), and click on the “Save” button.
In this case, the file you downloaded will be located in the location you selected, and finding it will not be difficult.
Mozilla Firefox
In the case of this browser, you should initially set up a folder to save files on your computer. So, go to the menu “Tools” - “Settings”.
On the “General” tab in the “Downloads” menu, either specify the location on your computer where you are going to save the downloaded files (click the “Browse” button and select the location you need), or check the box “Always prompt me to save files” . In the second case, when saving files, the program will ask each time where exactly you want to save the file, and you can always indicate the place on your computer where you can easily find it.
Opera
Once you click on the link to the download file, a download dialog box will appear in front of you. You will need to click on the “Save” button and then select a location on your computer where you can easily find the downloaded file. The sequence of actions is, in principle, the same as when saving a file in Internet Explorer.
If you still forgot where you saved the file, you can use the search function built into the system Microsoft Windows. To do this, simply go to “Computer” and enter the name of the file you are looking for in the search bar located at the top right. If you don't remember the exact name of the file, you can simply enter the extension (for music, for example, it will be mp3) and click on the search icon. The computer will display all files with the required extension and you can find the one you need.
Once you have found the file you need, select it with one click of the left mouse button, and then right-click and select “File Location” from the drop-down menu. You will be automatically moved to the folder where the found file is located. There you can move it to a place convenient for you.
As a rule, to download anything from a site, you must first register on it. It is this name and password that you are asked when you want to download a file. Let's look at the registration procedure using a website as an example. http://www.zaycev.net.
Go to the site and in the top right corner you will see a form. Follow the “Registration” link.
On the registration page, carefully fill out all the fields, remembering your login and password (you can specify any of them, as long as you remember them). Address email You need to indicate the real one, as a letter with an activation link will be sent to it. Then click on the “Register” button
Now wait for an email to arrive with a link to your email address specified during registration. After following the link and activating your account on this site, you can return to home page. Now in the upper right corner, enter your name and password that you remembered when filling out the form and click on the “Login” button. Do not forget that this username and password are valid only for this site. To download materials from other sites, you will have to go through a similar registration procedure.
Typically used to unpack files special program– archiver. The most popular archiver is WinRar, which can be downloaded from the website http://www.win-rar.ru/. After installing the archiver, you will only need to double-click the archive with the left mouse button, click the “Extract to...” button in the program, and specify the path to unpack the files.
That's it. Happy downloading!
